Every time a US company raises its streaming prices on me, I cancel and resubscribe from Bangladesh.
Today it's Spotify's turn; they used to get $12.99 a month from me, but will be getting ~$2.40 a month going forward.

Like Bangladesh fought an entire war for the right to speak Bengali. Netflix force dubbing the world's entertainment to Bangla would be the ultimate victory for the nation's founders.
Fond memories of the time I was told to STFUB (shut the f*** up, brother) in the Bay Ridge mosque when I pointed out that our prayers were all heading off into space even though we were ostensibly facing the Kabah.

Content is based on access location, which for me is... extremely variable. I haven't noticed things dropping out of my library as I travle.
I mean sure but also electrical engineering as a profession has spent literal decades hazing the shit out of students for no reason whatsoever.
Outside of expatriation, a lot of what ails the US semi industry is entirely self inflicted.
CHIPS critics say it won't work because U.S. lacks a semiconductor workforce. This is circular. U.S. lost that workforce because industry expatriated itself. How do you bring that workforce back if TSMC et al don't start building in U.S.?
Young lady checking us out from the hotel was from Ukraine, I made some conventional small talk about hoping her loved ones are ok, she whips out phone and shows me video her husband sent her of using a rocket launcher to take out a tank.
Note from desk reminding us that there isn't enough lithium on earth for Tesla to sell its way to its current share price.
On earth, desk analyst. On earth.
The IRS says by mid-2022, the only way to log in to will be through , an ID verification service where applicants have to submit copies of bills/ID documents, as well as live selfies via a webcam or mobile.
Before entering this insanely cruel, unjust, and bizarre world none of us had an interest, desire, or any form of consent to come into it. Forcing someone into the world isn’t caring, selfless, kind, and it certainly isn’t a personal choice or doing someone a favor.
The point of finance is to fund literally everything else in life, not seek arbs for the rest of your existence. This guy’s family will never have to think about a roof over their head again: he has won, be a friend and throw him a party.
Buddy just paid off his 2.5% interest 30-year mortgage.
He worked 43 overtime shifts last year at the fire station.
Where I work, that’s about 95k in addition to his salary.
He had 150k in savings.
Dropped it all to pay off his mortgage.
Schools should teach life finance.
Amazon understands that AI is going to become a commodity. They are going to wait for everyone else to do the hard work and then they’ll do what they do best: deploy commodity hardware to do commodity workloads.
It's interesting watching the really Big Tech companies formulate their AI strategy.
Microsoft is going all in, as is Google.
But Apple and Amazon are waiting in the wings, dipping their toes in quietly, but mostly still observing.
Those two companies wasted a lot of money and…

Communications in general. You may hate what we've done with it, but you aren't paying for minutes or texts, and contact is pervasive, cheap and plentiful.
I distinctly remember having to send Paul (or one of his minions) an email asking to be excused from class so that I could register myself with the government's NSEERS (i.e. Muslim alien registration) program.
Overall, Americans took 9/11 pretty calmly. Notably, there wasn't a mass outbreak of anti-Muslim sentiment and violence, which could all too easily have happened. And while GW Bush was a terrible president, to his credit he tried to calm prejudice, not feed it 2/
I don't know how the Elon Share Price Generation machine will interact with the Twitter Constant Shareholder Value machine, but the future is guaranteed to be interesting.

To the barista at Starbucks who said “that’s a beautiful dress” to the trans person in front of me, clearly making her day: that was a good way to make everyone’s day better.
White people ordering butter chicken, garlic naan, and mango Lassi at an Indian restaurant has the same energy as them ordering enchiladas, margaritas, and chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant

The recurring theme on /r/nursing is that administrators know that if they increase wages now they will not be able to reduce them after the current shock passes, and are therefore resorting to (frankly) abusive labor practices to muddle through until wage pressure abates.
I'm sitting in the middle of a perfect shitstorm of systems non-interoperability with three vendors who refer to Berkshire Class B stock as BRKB, BRK/B and BRK-B.

It's funny because they got their hands on spices and then used them in the most pedestrian possible way for hundreds of years.
I issued a couple of ill-advised DROP TABLES in what I thought was a dev server and took out mortgage trading for Goldman Sachs the day before Lehman went under.
The summer before I left for college, I visited my grandfather in Bangladesh for what turned out to be the very last time. I will never forget his parting words: "Good luck, and remember to never talk to anyone on campus about the Middle East."
