This passage is a perfect Graeberism because the vibes feel right despite every individual fact being totally wrong. The Black Death was in the 1350s, the Ottomans didn't take Constantinople until 1453, they didn't push into Central Europe until Suleiman in the 1500s!.
Graeber claims on page 308 that the black death caused cities to default on their bonds in the 1400s, but he does not cite any source, and as far as i can find online, municipal bonds weren't invented at the time.

JUST IN: 🇯🇵 Metaplanet CEO Simon says they plan to borrow against their #Bitcoin “to buy profitable businesses”: FT. “Maybe it is acquiring a digital bank in Japan.”

Do you think you could save shareholders money by firing your chief investment officer and just using his ChatGPT account instead?
I’m joining ProCap as Chief Investment Officer. Here’s how @APompliano and I plan to build on the platonic ideal of a sovereign treasury—. Purpose-built. Permanent. Principled. To lead the post-fiat era anchored in the ideals of the Bitcoin Standard. Bitcoin is the hurdle rate.
