Hi Dr. Neel, nice buzzwords - would you care to elaborate on how this is a "McCarthyist witch-hunt"? A third-party law firm conducted the investigation and found him to be guilty. That is due process. That is justice. What exactly are you "disappointed" and "frightened" by?
Wanted to share some thoughts on something really important to me and all of us. Don't have a lot of followers, but if you see this I'd appreciate a read.

Feeling a rare but healthy dose of pride today - reached a personal milestone of 500 citations! Grateful for all the co-authors + exciting science I've gotten to work on. Lots more to come!
Excited to see another of my thesis chapters published. We developed a DcpS degrading PROTAC, with implications to better understand AML and SMA biology. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.

This is an exceedingly rare, singular case where I have to side with Oz on this one. Meat production is incredibly detrimental to the environment and our health and he's right that it should no longer be subsidized by the government. Higher prices would dissuade consumption.
In the past four months alone four papers came out - all in good journals - that nicely corroborate findings from my 2019 paper. Hate to be petty, but it's a pretty small field and none of them cited our work. Love it!!!
I should get used to this, shouldn't I?
last year I spoke at a press conference urging CT politicians to block the building of the proposed Killingly Energy Center gas power plant -- just found that I was cited by

..cool!

passed away yesterday evening, having reached the end of her road with ovarian cancer. She leaves behind her Sun and Moon, a loving extended family, colleagues and students, friends around the world, and so many others who have been touched by her & her story 1/n
Congrats to
@JasonHu222
and Po-Han on their latest story where they develop and implement an approach to induce targeted dephosphorylation of tau using heterobifunctional small molecules! Happy to have contributed.
Deeply disturbed. The past few months genuinely make me want to abandon my career. I don't understand what this is for. There is an ongoing genocide and the majority of my peers active on this site, scientists whose work I respect, have not publicly expressed any feeling
@GovNedLamont
Governor, if you want a carbon-free future in CT why did you do nothing to stop the frack gas plant in Killingly from being approved? There is absolutely no reason to be building new gas power plants in 2021.
when I'm a PI I'm going to make sure all my trainees know there is only one (1) way to use pipette tips and it's right to left, bottom to top. anything else is simply bad science.

Finally, the function of the mysterious capase-7 is revealed. For the record, Death Facilitator is a 10/10 death metal band name.
The fact of the matter is that our industry is a MAJOR contributor to climate change. Obscene plastic waste, water & energy use, etc. Worse yet, many of our leading institutions ACTIVELY invest in fossil fuels (ahem,
@Yale
, cc:
@YaleEJC
). We must confront this reality.

LOL WHAT! Oh no... I'm actually studying ROS/cell death - lord knows how much data I've inadvertently skewed... thanks for the heads up!
The "Icon Of The Seas" sets sail in January 2024. 5610 passengers, 2350 crew members, 5 times larger and heavier than the Titanic, 19 floors with more than 40 bars, restaurants and bowling alleys. What a monstrosity!
BREAKING: After a decade of constant pressure by students, faculty, and alums,

It’s a massive victory for our community, the climate movement, and the world — and a strike against the power of the fossil fuel industry. (THREAD)

Better wording, in that case: the law firm produced a report which Whitehead used to determine he was guilty of violating their policies on sexual harassment.

since we were talking about science+metal wanted to drop this:
I played bass in a melodeath band for many years and since I was studying microbiology I of course had to write a song about the plague.

I mean, we got multiple Covid vaccines just about a year from genome sequencing!! An incredible feat in no small part due to the power of community. Labs dropped everything. Pivoted to Covid research. Shared unpublished data. Worked together.

This is a climate emergency on a scale that dwarfs SARS-CoV2. Let's work together. Let's pivot. Let's rethink our future and do everything we can to save it while we still can.

feel like not enough people recognize Hanson's 1997 opus "Mmmbop" as a powerful, cautionary statement on time's relentless and unforgiving forward momentum.
appreciate life folks, because in an mmmbop, it's gone.
@MayorElicker
this is deplorable. You're not "helping people move out," you are dehumanizing unhoused NHvers + violating their basic rights. Invest in safe infrastructure for the unhoused first. To be fair, this would be easier if Yale paid their taxes.
Great paper describing an energetic substrate trade-off between innate immunity & mitochondrial metabolism in Drosophila, how this affects infection outcome, and how they are influenced by life-history events - explaining inter-individual heterogeneity.

Pollinators are essential to our ecosystem and for our survival*. Their numbers are plummeting, in large part due to climate change and overuse of toxic pesticides. Check the link below to fight the latter.

Music to my ears! Congrats on the great work. Very motivating to see there is still room for low-throughput but highly thorough dissection of complex signaling events at the forefront! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go order some GSDMD siRNA, just to see...
Deciding on my first post has been stressful, so here's some shameless self-promotion to get the ball rolling.
Thankful to

Check out this presentation by Caitlin on a really cool project I had the pleasure of collaborating on! She shows that DCs lacking DOCK8 undergo a caspase-dependent "shattering" during migration, ultimately causing a pathological Th2 skewing in the context of pulmonary infection.
Now, climate scientists across the world are - and Indigenous leaders HAVE BEEN - screaming as loudly & clearly as they can that we are hurtling towards total ecological, environmental, and consequent societal destruction and the biomedical community barely makes a peep.
