Listening to @EamonRyan on @SaturdayRTE deflect and evade questions of travel quarantine. A year into the pandemic. On an island. How can anyone expect the @greenparty_ie to lead on difficult climate change policies when they won't take science seriously even in a pandemic?

An evasive interview from @MichealMartinTD on @RTE_PrimeTime . . When a surge of infections happens for a 3rd time, it stops being 'unprecedented', and we start being simply 'unprepared'. A strategy that relies solely on vaccines is not a strategy. March 5th, what then? #rtept

If @LeoVaradkar wants to discuss Perth, let's compare: Perth: 2021: 1 case, 0 deaths, 5 days of lockdown - & mostly normal life around it. Ireland 2021: >100,000 cases, >1,000 deaths, 2 - 3 months of lockdown, then hoping for Level 3 restrictions 🤔 #WeCanBeZero

However, given the very high and rising incidence of COVID-19 across all age groups in the community, it is inevitable that children will pick up this infection from household contacts in the days and weeks ahead.

Negatives tests are not sufficient due to incubation cycles. People can transmit the virus after vaccination. Vaccine escape variants exist and are a growing risk as new ones evolve. That's the beginning of the story.

This is insane. There will be interminable quarantine with no exit, ever, if this nonsense continues. Vaccine + negative test should allow free movement. End of story.

Passengers from 33 X travel origins will have have to quarantine for 10 days in the UK hotels from February 15th. Ireland will be forced to follow suit as part of common travel area. Then, may as well do so for all travel origins as recommended by @CMOIreland & @ISAGCOVID19 .

This article is 2 months old, but we're in the thick of it now. In Ireland, we've ignored the science of risk to children, & best advice from @ECDC_EU & @CDCgov . Now, we have surging COVID cases in all age groups but no real mitigations in schools. Let's change this immediately.

Last year we made a major mistake in the Christmas reopening. We made it far, far worse by chosing not to respond immediately. Uncertainty does not call for a "wait and see" approach. It requires a risk management strategy based on regret minimisation. Act now.
Delays in decisions cost lives. Actions taking when advised on Dec 18 2020 instead delayed to Dec 27 cost ~2000 lives via the ~150,000 additional cases generated by that delay. @DonnellyStephen @MichealMartinTD Don't repeat the same mistakes again.
