The proposed state budget would work with localities to allow for 50 homes per acre around train stations in NYC and within 15 miles. But what does that average density look like? We worked with the great @alfred_twu to visualize what areas around train stations could look like.

New Yorkers deserve elected officials who have the political will to create the housing we so desperately need. When the City Council votes on the Throggs Neck rezoning, Council Members must demonstrate their commitment to ending the housing crisis by voting YES on the project.

If it doesn’t build more housing, fast, New York will soon shut out young, working-class and middle-class people. Only the wealthiest will remain, along with NIMBY holdouts sprinkled across the city.

Periodic reminder: before we released our affordable housing plan for SoHo the NIMBYs were much more open about what their motivations are. Don't believe them when they start throwing around rhetoric about gentrification (in SoHo... in 2020... lol).

Borough President Levine is right — we can’t expect New Yorkers to afford a Manhattan that doesn’t build new homes, and we certainly can’t expect them to raise families here when average rents for a 3BR are hitting $9000 (!!!) a month. We need more homes for all New Yorkers.

Our ED @willthomas_usa is in the @NYDailyNews this morning, making the case for the SoHo/NoHo rezoning and taking down the unfortunate misinformation that rezoning opponents have resorted to. Read and share!

The actions announced today by @NYCMayor are exactly the kind of pro-housing reforms that the City and State desperately need. We are excited to work with @ebottcher & @KeithPowersNYC on the proposed rezonings, which will bring permanently affordable housing to Midtown.

Recently, a group of Brooklyn officials called for an end to parking minimums for new construction in transit-rich neighborhoods. We're into it—and we expect to hear more soon! In the meantime: What are parking minimums anyway, and why do we want to get rid of them? 🤔⤵️

Delighted to hear @NYCLandmarks ' vote in favor today of 250 Water St as an appropriate addition to the South Street Seaport historic district––we look forward to supporting these 270 homes (w/ 70 affordable) as they make their way through the ULURP process.

We agree, @LizKrueger . Thank about how many units we could add if we simply allowed residential uses at the same density as commercial in Manhattan!

While this housing package includes some positive steps for building homes in New York City, it ultimately reinforces the status quo that allows local governments the absolute power to ban new homes, which perpetuates inequitable patterns and worsens our housing crisis each year.

@annemariegray @JanakiChadha @politicony Our agenda starts with some low-hanging policy fruit: legalize small apartment buildings, ADUs, and SROs everywhere. There is no reason for the most affordable home types to be banned anywhere in New York City or State except to exclude — and we all suffer when they are banned.

The @nytimes editorial board backs the SoHo/NoHo rezoning! “NY'ers need affordable housing in every neighborhood, not as an afterthought at the end of a long subway line. Making that a reality would go a long way toward building a fairer, healthier city.”
