In 1965, LPC designated Brooklyn Heights as the city’s first historic district, praising its “special character” that retains “much of the atmosphere of a 19th-century urban community.”

In the 1950s, new residents began to convert buildings into individual residences, and groups like @thebhanow and other community organizations were established and supported the preservation of the neighborhood.

Celebrating 60 years of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District, the first historic district designated by LPC! The area became residential in the early 1800s as ferries linked Brooklyn and Manhattan, and its streetscape of brick & brownstone homes remains largely unchanged today.

Today, LPC designated two new historic districts in Brooklyn: Beverley Square West and Ditmas Park West. Both historic districts feature distinctive homes built around the turn of the 20th century as Flatbush transitioned to an early suburban development: https://t.co/siqai5HWl1

Originally developed as an all-white enclave, Addisleigh Park transformed in the 1940s when Black homebuyers challenged racially restrictive covenants & the district become home to icons like Ella Fitzgerald, Jackie Robinson, & residents active in the the Civil Rights Movement.

We are excited to cut the ribbon later today on a $108 million infrastructure project in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood. Read more in this morning's @nytimes:

The project in Dumbo and Vinegar Hill, Brooklyn, involved replacing cobblestones and the infrastructure underneath them.

Alongside @NYCDDC, @NYCDOT & @nyclandmarks, we're happy to announce improved sewer & storm drainage for 26 blocks in #Dumbo! We not only upgraded 32 existing catch basins but added 46 more AND installed 2,735 ft of new storm sewers to improve the health 🩺 of our waterways 🌊!
