Then in 2014, after 3 yrs, when @BilldeBlasio finally tried to get a new program, Cuomo said it was too late to change 3 sentences in the budget to allow it. @BlackLisa and I went to Albany & she convinced the R’s under Dean Skelos to do it. True story 2/2

.⁦@andrewcuomo⁩ invoking an unhoused family to criticize ⁦@ZohranKMamdani⁩ living in a rent stabilized apt reminds me of the time in 2011 that Cuomo defunded the Advantage program, leading to a 30%+ spike in mostly family homelessness. 1/

Correction of typo: as stated in the prior post, the Gov’s shutdown went into effect on 3/22, not 4/22.

have been saved if the Gov had acted earlier. But I imagine I wasn’t the only one trying to warn him of the massive potential for loss of life in those critical days, when every minute mattered. What I saw was an unwillingness by the Gov to act until much too late,.

the average time from infection to death in the early days of COVID was approx. 3 weeks. This chart shows the deaths in NYC in March and April 2020. As you can see the daily number of COVID deaths in NYC rose to over 600 in the second week of April, and began to decrease 7/

I continue to be haunted by Bret Stephens’s words in the @nytimes Opinion pages this week. At this moment when we are seeing man-made famine causing more death, Mr. Stephens chose to minimize the tens of thousands of civilian deaths in a rhetorical game.
