With a lot of buzz about the City Council speaker's race, Crystal Hudson allies are increasingly pushing the narrative that Julie Menin would be a Mamdani foil if picked for the post. One progressive City Council member tells me:

New: New York’s largest health care union, 1199SEIU, is endorsing Crystal Hudson’s bid to become the City Council’s next speaker, becoming the first major organized labor group to get officially involved in the race, which hit a fever pitch overnight.

.@Fabien_Levy says Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's decision to give notices to these Adams admin officials is "a massive loss for New Yorkers." Should be noted Adams has on the way out been taking steps to stymie Mamdani's agenda, including via expected RGB appointments.

The mayor was noticeably not in attendance despite having nothing beyond an 8 am meeting on his schedule.

Because of a legal restriction, the City Council will not vote this year to increase wages for its members, the mayor and other local elected officials, per sources. This comes after the initial plan to vote on raises in 2025 drew outrage from watchdogs.
