We recently stopped using React to render map elements in @Felt Not only does this make Felt faster than ever, but it also makes it look even better and cleans up our code. Why did we do this, and how did we manage such a big change?

I've almost finished migrating a 35K LOC, 3-5 year old @reactnative project over from version 64 to 73 (while doing an almost complete rewrite of every screen) Here is a thread of my observations of how things have changed in that time, what has been hard/easy etc.

@Vc27Mr @AlanaKinrich My bro once had to go to the ER shortly after Christmas because he swallowed anti freeze trying to syphon it out of the petrol tank. The doctors rustled around in the cupboard and came back with a bottle of rum left over from the Christmas party and told him to get smashed.

@mattpocockuk Enforcing namespaces for analytics events in a big app. Disallow cruft from building up like “item_added_to_cart” “added_item” “searched_term” “clicked_search_result” by enforcing an allowlist of namespaces: “cart_” “search_” So you’ll get predictable names.

@thetoad101 @Acococure @rebexxxxa You could make that point about praising any achievement. “Are people who don’t climb Everest not worthy of praise?” Losing weight is a big achievement for a lot of people and often has great health benefits. If they’re happy with their hard work why not congratulate them?

@sneridagh @kentcdodds Typescript is code. Patterns exist in typescript and they are more explicit. You don’t spend time fixing typings if you wrote types first, usually. Typescript setup is almost zero. Typescript is often easier to read, for a number of reasons.
