I just want to add- here in the Chesapeake Bay watershed we have an "oysters at the bottom, beavers at the top" approach going which is WONDERFUL. Beavers do more than many realize to filter out pollutants (ag and road runoff), stop erosion, and fill aquifers

Usually in schools, K-2 is for learning to read/decode words, 3rd grade is for polishing that ability, and 4+ is for reading to learn (eg "read this chapter and write about it)
Learning TO read essentially stops after 3rd grade
