@MeetJess
This sounds really bad. "Spreading across the US 60% fatality," but it adds, "healthy people" need not worry. The question is, who's healthy anymore. I'm afraid a healthy population is slowly dwindling. Indeed, it's troubling.
@jcaroccio
I'm so sorry for you. I know the pain of this as it happened to me with a family member. It's devastating, but I believe people are entitled to their health - full stop. The denial is insane. Unfortunately, knowing this doesn't help us with our loss.
@nothxjstlooking
I asked my ophthalmologist to mask for my next appointment, and he said no, so I canceled the appointment. There's no reason on earth to accept such treatment. I will go to the end of the earth to find one that will. I feel the same you. This is not workable.
@sammy4723
@sanders_cindy
I find myself repeatedly pummeled by those insisting that I'm crazy for not participating. I'm told, 'Vaxed, boosted and A-okay for dining, gathering, etc. 'And I should be too.' It is exhausting to constantly have to defend myself. They don’t believe a bit of the above.
@LauraMiers
Oh, Laura. I'm in tears. I dreamt about my daughter. We're not speaking - she says I'm mentally ill, that Covid is just a cold. I dreamt that my car stalled & I was stuck w/o a mask. That tells you my state of mind. I don't know what to say. I wish I could take it all away.
@chantz_y
It's heartbreaking 💔 dealing with the same but with adult daughter. Covid has not only destroyed people's health but also separated them from loved ones. It's hard to believe this is happening.
@1goodtern
Tern, I admire the delicate way you approached this with your friend. Truly difficult relaying what is not a happy story. It's been agonizing trying to navigate life w/people who don't want to understand the dangers. My own daughter has cut me out because of my Covid precautions.
@LauraMiers
I woke up this morning in disbelief - 4th pandemic year! Sadly, there is not one mention of it in any news outlet - I subscribe to The Atlantic, Washington Post, checked CNN, ABC, my local Charlotte newspaper, not FB. I'm lost in this dystopian world.
@sublimepilgrim
Wow, is he out of line! You should report him for abuse. It's really hard continuing to fight for our health, but it's worth the fight. Your wife should let him know that his comments are unacceptable. He has no right to insert his opinion.
@danaparish
Can you please tell me why my whole Facebook feed is filled with smiling faces, friends, and family together, vacations ... a whole other world. I think I'm going to have a mental breakdown from this whole situation. We've done nothing for three years and I feel like I'm crazy.
@hjelle_brian
He's been on the mark since Jan 2020 ... before anyone was concerned about Covid. He is someone who lets the public know what they're up against and I have the greatest respect for his work. Also read many other expert epidemiologists/virologists including yourself.
@LauraMiers
A nightmare it is! Are we now normalizing passing out, vomiting, or diarrhea as part of the travel experience? Just a new low in a sea of "lows."
@DebHolloway
This is spellbinding horror. I could never have imagined what this pandemic would reveal about human beings. I'm not sure that they've always been this way, but there has been a slow decline and desolation of humanity over the last decade that has recently turned into a tsunami.
@zerocovid4kids
I hate to say this but I'm at the point that I trust no one. Just my husband. Thank goodness we're on the same page. The situation gets more dismal each day. Sometimes we just look at each other and shake our heads. We're in disbelief.
@MrkStdngr
What have they done? They've convinced most people even after four years of real-life documented evidence of its harm that Covid is still just a cold.
@SarahMcGinger
It certainly is a reminder but getting more challenging by the day. I understand the temptation and how hard it is to be alone, but the facts are the facts as much as we'd like to wish them away. Very hard.
@LauraMiers
We've managed to stay Covid free with its many challenges. If it weren't for people like you, Laura, and others here, we would probably have been infected. Watching everyone live their "fantasy life" is really difficult - living in an alternative universe.
@alexmeshkin
I hope that you find someone who can get off the denial train and figure out next steps. "Who cares?" What happened to the hippocratic oath? What happened to problem solving, competency and the caring physician? This new normal from the med community shocks the hell out of me.
@LauraMiers
@RioSlade
There have been more fungus, bacteria, and viral infections reported now than I've seen for my entire life. But it's all normal, right - oh and by the way, we should get them all so it helps our immune systems.
@katetwhitley
You lose them either way - if you're still taking precautions or if you're sick with long Covid. What does friendship really mean these days? Does it mean shedding precautions so friends will stick around ... knowing they'll only disappear if you get sick? I don't think so.
@1goodtern
For the last 3 years, through all the waves and sickness, I stayed hopeful that the powers that be would see the light. I dressed up for New Year's at home, hopeful for good in the coming year. This year, it'll be leggings, a tee-shirt, and 🍕 pizza coupled with a slice of dread.
@YouAreLobbyLud
This is a painful day. Those of us who never put our heads in the sand have a deep understanding of the implications of what this means for China, its citizens, and the world.
@sammy4723
@sanders_cindy
I know. Me too. But it is lonely. People just don't bother with us anymore. It's hard to imagine that this will be permanent and our future will be one of isolation. And we've got Monkeypox coming up the pike yet. God help us.
@brownecfm
@emilygraymd_mph
The hardest part of resilience is pain from close friends or relatives telling you that you're mentally ill or the feeling that you're an island in the middle of a sea with constant fear of being infected by the herd, especially by the med profession who's given up protecting us.
@LREnvironment
@MeetJess
I learned this, too. I never realized how small people's worlds were and that they had no desire to understand anything beyond themselves.
@farid__jalali
It's hard to trust doctors who minimize illness. What do you do when your own docs become minimalists and tell you about their reckless behavior? Unfortunately, they are not in the minority. I have two I can count on and one of them is retiring.
@DebsFrazer
What a nightmare this has caused. It really has helped define who deserves to be in our lives, but it's tragic when we find out that those closest to us care more about their entitled lives than us. I'm so sorry, it's not fair
@DrEricDing
@CDCgov
So wait, why are they all in quarantine themselves after that super spreader event if there's nothing to see here? And socially distanced meetings? But the rest of us can surely fly with those who are infected.
@danaparish
This is outrageous, so upsetting to hear and what I fear most. It's a disgrace that medical professionals are willing and able to infect their patients with a level 3 pathogen.
@MeetJess
We're all vulnerable and threatened by society's response to the political theater, 'let it rip.' There are so many forced infection situations including schools, medical offices, travel, shopping - it's endless. Not a threat? How do they explain all the precautions at Davos?!?!
@rkh_md
Well said. Unfortunately, no one cares. I could never have imagined, in my lifetime, having to coexist with a humanity devoid of empathy and common sense. But sadly, here we are.
@LauraMiers
Sickening that we are allowing this uncontrollable spread that's killing our young. Worse still is that no one wants to admit it. Such a sad situation.
@MeetJess
Any predictions on this one? In the meantime, our two largest health care hospitals and providers are removing all mask requirements at hospitals and clinical offices - starting tomorrow, just in time for my appointment next week. Yup, and one day's notice.
@MeetJess
Ugh, I'm still thinking about this. And add to the horror, this passenger was expected to clean it up himself and then remain there for the remainder of the flight - incomprehensible. And the attitudes of those in charge. Planes are now like diseased cattle cars.
@LauraMiers
I can't believe this newest horror on top of everything else. I'm so sorry about your cat. That's so sad. These horrendous policies are not only sickening the kids but our pets as well. I pray everyone fully recovers and that you stay uninfected.
@LauraMiers
After 2.5 years of extreme measures to stay safe, I'm still Covid free. But I'm starting to have doubts about it all and concerns about my mental well-being, especially not knowing a single soul doing the same. To say some days I'm on the edge is an understatement.
@MeetJess
I've been feeling it for awhile but today it really hit me - the videos of conferences - doctors dancing/singing maskless, crowds going mad, hospitals with no precautions. On a more personal level, not a soul I know mentions the pandemic. We're in for a world of horror.
@LauraMiers
No words for any of this, Laura. Your words have been heard by many, but unfortunately, not enough. Most refuse to give up anything pre 2020 and have no understanding or wish to understand the ramifications of this virus. The way I see it, things are getting worse, not better.
@NohaAboelataMD
@sdaction1
@MarkedByCovid
I'm already terrified going to doctors' offices with their mostly sub-par mitigations. Now, I probably won't go at all. If WA, OR and CA have joined this contagion bandwagon, more and more will jump on. What a nightmare.
@lisa_iannattone
How can a federal judge change a public health mandate on the spot, literally trapping high risk passengers, babies, mid-flight without advance notice? It's incomprehensible. Where was the CDC as this unfolded? Just standing by observing?!?
@DoorenspleetR
I'm so sorry. What a heartache. It seems Covid denial has brought out the worst in people. So many stories like this - it's awful. Your son will ultimately need you, especially if your wife becomes ill. Eventually, you'll be grateful for your sound decision-making.
@LadyChuan
Unbelievable. There's not a soul that I know that acknowledges that it even exists. Any reference to the virus is only "during Covid." Globally, leaders in public health set this stage. If things don't change, we will never have any hope for a liveable future.
@MLS_Dave
Thank you, David. To be honest, it's very hard not to be down in the dumps these days. We're staying the course but it's not a good life. It feels like real life disappeared and has been replaced by something very sinister.
@lisa_iannattone
It's incredibly lonely not to know anyone cognizant of the dangers of Covid and very hard to cope watching everyone else living their "best" lives while we watch this debacle unfold.
@hjelle_brian
I'd like to know why we are barely into this (a little over one week) and everyone is 'screaming' mild? Everyone but virologists and epidemiologists. Also seeing this on mainstream media. What?
@LauraMiers
Absolutely. I don't answer anymore. Most of them say they've tested twice, and it was negative. We know that with the new variants, you need to keep testing even past day 5. There's no point trying to convince them. They've already decided.
@MCM54321
I agree, Michael. People have changed as well. Perhaps it's the frenetic pace at which they've been required to function for so long. They're almost robotic - void of a capacity for critical thinking. Now they're just cogs on a wheel.
@xabitron1
Ugh! I had the worst day. I went for blood work at my GP. The technician greeted me w/o a mask. I asked her if she'd wear one - she sneered at me - but begrudgingly took the N95 I brought. It could've been worse ... but then I received a call from my eye doc. (1)
@SolNataMD
So sorry that you're going through such horror. Thank you for all you've done and for the invaluable information you've shared. Sending prayers for your family.
@NohaAboelataMD
It's a fact that this virus is extremely contagious and harmful, so essentially, this policy gives the greenlight to freely infect others with a BL-3 pathogen. On what planet are we living? At best, this is irresponsible. At worst, it's criminal.
@xabitron1
@zerocovid4kids
How the heck did we get here? I would never have imagined this at our health care facilities. The "urgency to normal" spread like an airborne virus. We're in deep - perhaps to the point of no return.
@MLS_Dave
A pharmacist approached me w/o a mask to give me a flu vaccine. I asked her kindly to put on her mask, and she was furious. I gave her a piece of my mind. Needless to say, I'll never set foot into that place again. It's a disgrace.
@makeupartist524
I'm experiencing this, too. It's getting harder to have hope and exist in such a cruel world. People have gone crazy. I'm also struggling to cope. I've been crying every day. I'm happy that the medication has made a difference. It's just awful right now.
@xabitron1
I've been told I am mentally ill for taking care. It has been devastating socially and after two years of it, you get worn down. Still, I am staying the course. From my high school days on I never followed the crowd with no plans to start now. What's been done is criminal.
@luckytran
It's more than just the vulnerable who are at risk. Everyone, whether they believe it or not, is at risk. If mild or asymptomatic infections can cause serious heart, lung, and brain damage, as well as Long Covid, no one is safe, especially the immune compromised.
@xabitron1
This afternoon, she called back, said the doc just came in, read your card (which was really nice, btw), and said he's not willing to mask. She was so apologetic and sounded so sorry. She said she knows that Covid is still a serious threat. I told her I wouldn't be able to come.
@DrEricDing
The last 3+ yrs have not been kind. Trust is won. If Biden didn't like the direction we were going, he would have changed it. I'm keeping an open mind, but the CDC has done everything to spread infection - and they've succeeded. Their magic touch has even made it disappear.
@SleepyJim0
Yeah ... this is life now. Fraught with worry. I'm sitting in my car waiting to go in for an overdue important ophthalmology appt. They'll mask, if you ask (probably surgical), but most don't. I was up all night worrying if this appt would give me a potential disabling illness.
@MelpomeneMel
The airlines need to get their act together. This is absolutely appalling. Aside from the maskless disaster, this brings biohazard to a whole new level. To insist that passengers continue their trip in this minefield - just no words. Where are the attorneys?
@DaveDeGraceMD
I wondered why hospitals, of all places, would adopt a "let it rip" policy. You explained it well. I'm sure it's the same situation here at many hospitals. Not all, thank goodness.
@MelpomeneMel
I have many friends on FB fostered over 15 yrs (photographers) + some old friends. No one mentions Covid. It's like it doesn't exist. I see photos of gatherings, travel, etc. It's mind-blowing and very upsetting. I'm so sorry you had to experience the worst of people.
@xabitron1
Unfortunately, many don't want to connect the dots. After all, that would affect social gatherings, dining + vacations. And there are those that must go to a job where no one is masking resulting in forced infection. The state of health-care will add to our undoing. A nightmare.
@YouAreLobbyLud
I move from anger to despair. Never could I have imagined this level of unethical behavior, lack of care for fellow humans, and a deadening of the human soul to this extent in my lifetime. Families deserting family members who want to protect themselves - and on and on.
@CovidDataReport
Their May '21 decision to allow vaccinated people to unmask. They knew then that the unvaccinated would follow suit. A disastrous decision that signaled the trajectory of this pandemic. And here we are.
@MeetJess
@Merry_Seas
I was feeling really low already this morning (only 3 hours sleep) and then read this. "Praised!" My goodness. We've lost our humanity and it's not coming back.
@ChrisAlvino
I'm so sorry, Chris. Your grief is unimaginable. The divide on Covid has been disabling for our health, our relationships, and society as a whole. It feels like a whole new world. Many are sucked in with disinformation. We're victims ourselves or are left picking up the pieces.
@fitterhappierAJ
Thanks for all you've done to inform us about how Covid harms long term. Because of you,
@DrEricDing
and other wonderful and knowledgeable folks, my husband and I have remained Covid free. I worry what will become of communications and information if the worst happens on Twitter.
@LauraMiers
I've vowed not to get Covid and, fortunately, I have not. Still, I'm getting the same thing. Most people have no concept of wanting to remain infection free. It's a real challenge living like this, but I can't unlearn everything I now know.
@vickyyyf
I can't believe we're doing the same thing again. Immunocompromised, preexisting conditions - just euphemisms for not up to par. How many of us have one or more preexisting conditions? Young ... Old ... Millions, I'm sure. But let's just discard them. It's a disgrace.
@amethystarlight
He's allowed to wear a mask, I hope. This is horrible, Sara. I'm praying for you and your family - basically, for all of us who want to remain Covid free. I have no words.
@BaddCompani
@GOP
How long do we have to wait? It feels like we've already waited five years, if you count his campaign.The last year has been extremely painful and it seems like he is gaining steam.
