Remembering the time @NateSilver538 bet me $1M that it was not 100% that, in 10 years, electric vehicles would be safer than human-driven cars (I pay him $1M, he would pay me $10k.) I would’ve done it but didn’t think he’d be solvent in 10 years to pay me the $10k b/c of his.
It seems like there is not enough of a policy response to the fact that, with 57M miles of data, Waymo’s autonomous vehicles experience 85% less serious injuries & 79% less injuries overall than cars with human drivers. 2.4 million are injured & 40k killed in US accidents a year.

I come across so many academic scientists who do not want to revisit standards and thresholds as the science evolves. It’s bizarre to me. So many are happy w status quo, even when, as in this case, the status quo is based on some pretty shaky footing….
