The biggest change in the last 10 years is that we who used to marvel at 190km Yamuna Expressway now don't even bat an eyelid when 1400km Chennai-Surat or 1200km Amritsar-Jamnagar e-way comes up.
We may be poor at urban governance and infra, but boy oh boy, we build some amazing highways. This is the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway and it's amongst the best roads I've been on in India. Was on the Purvanchal Expressway last month and it was equally good. Sensational.

If you think a Chennai-Bangalore HSR will be a white elephant,I will have to assume you are completely ignorant of that region.
After Mumbai-Ahmedabad,Mumbai-Pune it has the highest number of business and professional class travel.
Thankfully India isn't building another white elephant, passenger-only bullet train; but is actually building a smart and practical semi-HSR on broad-gauge,which can go up to 200kmph.
Which is what it should do on all major routes where it plans a national bullet train network.
