Wait a minute. Is this the Twitter account of the guy who called for a total ban on abortion *under any circumstances*. And you’re trying to argue someone else is extreme??
@TheRealHoarse
@NikkiHaley
Amazing how many of these supposedly politically savvy Republicans can’t figure out how to play it with Trump. McConnell is all over the map and so is she.
@samstein
I’m in Toronto. There are some protesters but it just doesn’t have the energy that it does in the US because the whole freedom is everything/you can’t tell me what to do mindset is way stronger in America.
@matthewjdowd
@JohnCornyn
I can’t think of anything that describes the current GOP better. Everything is measured by Twitter and cable news. If you’re not doing spectacle/theater, you can’t possibly be governing.
@NoLieWithBTC
Is this going to be like in the late 90s/early 2000s where every other republican or evangelical leader who was vehemently opposed to same-sex marriage/gay rights was discovered at some point shortly after having gay sex?
@RadioFreeTom
The GOP is largely just a theatre troupe now. Very little interest in governing. All spectacle, all the time. Best to think of them as just a group of performance artists, which is why they handed the party over to a reality TV star.
@GRITTYSCITY1
@BlueBarbed_Wire
@simplydan
@SpeakerPelosi
@realDonaldTrump
Next you’ll be telling us to believe Trump. That’s what I find funny. The media gets a story or two wrong and they can’t be believed but Trump blatantly lies almost on an hourly basis and you guys still treat him like some honest truth teller.

@samontoya
@bennyjohnson
@benshapiro
@AOC
I am not some big AOC fan but I don’t see how she got destroyed here at all. His comparison is stupid. Someone who is drunk driving doesn’t get separated from their family permanently. He/she gets taken home or to a relative immediately. This is apples and oranges.
@MollyJongFast
@RepMattGaetz
Again, the right wants to compare BLM, an international movement with thousands of peaceful protests under its belt, with what happened at the Capitol which was based entirely on batshit insane conspiracy theories and nothing *real*.
McCain -45.7%
Romney - 47.2%
Trump - 46.1%
Trump didn’t do anything magical folks. A bunch of liberals just stayed home. As you can see, we know what the GOP number is going to be. It just comes down to Democratic turnout. Right
@RachelBitecofer

@steveschale
@mviser
I was told Biden always calls it an early night and rarely leaves his basement. At each event, those who tune in & pay attention recognize they’ve been fed an absurd caricature. Many on Twitter shocked a guy in politics for 47 years is actually quite coherent on policy. Imagine!
@RadioFreeTom
We had years of reporters trekking to red state diners so us big city liberals could understand how Trump won. Now we need a reversal: some of these folks in rural places need to understand actual big city life so they can (hopefully) stop believing absurd caricatures.
@fordm
@RadioFreeTom
Also, right wing commentary seems to be bizarrely & hilariously premised on the idea that big blue states like New York and California don’t deal with illegal immigration all the time.
@JamesSurowiecki
I continue to be amazed that the world’s richest person has nothing else to do but tweet conspiracy theories. He could be anywhere on the planet with interesting people doing interesting things/attending interesting events.
@emilymiller
Because unvaccinated people are taking up hospital beds that should be used for people with other conditions that aren’t as easily prevented. Because you’re continuing to transmit the virus and it mutates. Because kids can’t get vaccinated. I’m running out of Twitter characters.
@cliffschecter
@therecount
Hilarious definition of fear mongering though – hey, want to live in a vibrant city with lots of options of cool things to do and where you don’t have to take your car everywhere and worry about parking or having a few drinks etc.
@AdamKinzinger
Well, you’re in Congress. What is this amazing solution that would lead to great results in Afghanistan that no one else came up with in 20 years? Not snark. Spell it out for us.
@JoJoFromJerz
@atrupar
Senator on foreign relations committee claims he has no idea about the process of a president declassifying documents? Has never seen anything like the raid at Mar-a-Lago… Because… Wait for it…No other POTUS has had classified docs at his home. That’s why you haven’t seen it!
@ericowensdc
@greg_price11
I don’t know how someone can follow politics and not get that people *do* like Biden, whatever his flaws, whether you agree with his politics, etc. Biden’s likeability is the key to his success. How can people not know that?
@boob_haver
@JoeBiden
When I was (approx) your age, I was fucking furious at the Nader voters in Florida who handed the election to W (or so I believed at the time). But now, I'm with you on voting for a run over squirrel before Harris, Biden, etc.
Your generation is far more woke than X ever was.
@RpsAgainstTrump
Always amazed when people put up videos that show them being terrible human beings and they think virtually anyone is going to side with them.
@jonfavs
The GOP for quite some time now has been a theatre troupe masquerading as a political party. All that matters is spectacle 24-7. That’s why it was so easy for a reality TV host to take over the party.
I’m bored with 99% of the chatter about Elon Musk but did he really go from being the free-speech guy who might even allow white supremacists back on the site…to the guy policing obscure parody accounts in like, 48 hours?
Does anyone from the “Biden is senile” crowd ever watch a real clip of him? Not some 12 second thing where he stumbles over a word. Because if you do, you’ll see how sharp he still is.
Biden exposing the beltway media’s habit/addiction to regurgitating Republican talking points without any deeper examination of the actual proposals.
More of this, please.
Many on the left underestimated the Joe Biden brand. Americans know he’s a fundamentally decent human being and voters like this guy below are comfortable with him because he has already served as VP. It’s not any more complicated than that.
Scott (South Carolina) isn't just a GOP voter, he's even held office as a Republican. But he's not supporting Trump: "I'll vote for Biden for many reasons. The biggest is that he has some core decency and integrity that Donald Trump will never, ever, ever have."
@NathanJRobinson
I assure you most Obama supporters do not think he betrayed them. He left office with close to a 60% approval rating and remains incredibly popular with Democrats.
@Brendelbored
@NateSilver538
Yes, and Democrats immediately have to do deep analysis about why they missed targets with one or two demographic groups while the GOP can continue to ignore 37 demographic groups and no one questions them for a second.
@dschapira
@ArzagaCristina
Really appreciate the thread… I’ve never understood what her goal is? She managed to alienate her own party, obviously and certainly not for progressive goals. So what is the end game? She has virtually no chance of being reelected, and that was clear even before this morning.
@TheRealHoarse
These anti-vax Republicans who end up dying of COVID are only topped in numbers by the anti gay rights conservatives who always end up being gay.
@ConservativeLA
I spoke with
@BillKristol
on my Clusterfucked podcast and this was the point he made: though he was always Never Trump, he could understand his former fellow Republicans supporting Trump the first time. But for reelection? There was no justification.
There is a cottage industry of people sending Biden clips (never longer than 20 seconds of course) of him stumbling on a word and pretending that means he’s senile. To counter this, what follows is a montage of Biden video clips where you’ll see he’s very much with it…
@yashar
It was comically horrendous. But nothing is more on brand for the Republicans then to have the state of the union response coming from a woman in her kitchen. I mean, she knows her place, right?
Keep this in mind when Ezra Klein, Nate Silver and others say Democrats should start over with a new candidate at the convention. The idea that fundraising/staffing/advertising etc would start from scratch **3 months before the Presidential election** is pretty crazy.
The media keeps telling you how weak Biden is but the money and the election results are telling you something else entirely.
Biden campaign touts $42M raised in January
The Democratic president and DNC ended January with $130 million cash on hand.
“Trump is Hitler” isn’t going to do it. Neither is trying to have policy debates. Keep it simple Dems:
Trump & the GOP are crazy. Govt forcing a woman to have a baby/Jan 6/Russians can attack our allies. “Trump is a loon and you know it”. That’s it. That’s the entire campaign.
@atrupar
I think
@RonBrownstein
sums it up best when he says Trump is a war time president, only the war is against blue America – the people who didn’t vote for him. That’s how he governs 100% of the time.
@shamwowsupernva
@DanRather
I am an American in Canada. Henry Morgentaler, the most famous abortion doctor in the country, got the Order of Canada. The highest honour available to a Canadian citizen.
@RadioFreeTom
One day, DeSantis and others in the party will realize Trump’s base doesn’t really care about being conservative. Trump could turn around tomorrow and go all in on single payer healthcare and the green new deal and the base would lap it up.
I’m bored with 99% of the chatter about Elon Musk but did he really go from being the free-speech guy who might even allow white supremacists back on the site…to the guy policing obscure parody accounts in like, 48 hours?
@dantoujours
@kirk_bado
It never ever occurs to progressives, even for a second, that voters just preferred another candidate or aren’t always crazy about progressive ideas. That can never be it. Always some nefarious reason they lose elections
Call me crazy but I think there are a lot more voters like her than people Trump is going to win over in 2024. And remember Trump *lost* in 2020 (despite what your Trump loving uncle tells you!) so he needs new voters. He’s going to bleed more of them. I’m fairly certain of this.
Voter: Well, I voted for Nikki Haley, because that was voting against Donald Trump. I am 74 years old, I lived in a constitutional democracy all my life. I want to remain that way, I want my grandchildren to grow up in one, not a dictatorship.
For years, right up until present day, Republicans have repeated the talking point that “Democrats refused to accept the results of the 2016 election”. This is a lie. Here’s a short thread of Dem reactions to Trump’s victory.
@joshtpm
McCarthy tried to quash the January 6 commission, went crawling right back to Trump who tried to overturn Biden‘s election, went back on his deal with Biden and then opened a Biden impeachment inquiry …and Democrats are supposed to save him?
@JonahDispatch
It’s not shocking. He’s almost always coherent unless you’re just watching 15 second soundbites sent around by team Trump where he stumbles for a moment or pauses to remember something, like any other human being.
@jayblackisfunny
@DanRather
An American in Toronto here. We do have a percentage of anti-VAX/“freedom fighters” but nowhere near what it is in the US. Canadians at least take their healthcare seriously.
@samstein
@ec_schneider
The hilarious premise behind the Phillips campaign is Biden has serious shortcomings as a nominee and we can’t afford that against an opponent like Trump so… What we definitely need to do is nominate a complete unknown with *zero* national experience.
@DAvallone
@maggieNYT
I think 50 days in this is the media basically admitting all they care about is potential gotcha moments. Sure, at some point Biden can stand in front of cameras & take questions but nothing is stopping them from reporting on his administration, which holds daily press briefings.
So no, Dems didn’t refuse to accept the results of Trump’s election. What they did later on - after the Inauguration - was *protest* Trump’s election. There’s a big difference. As
@iamjohnoliver
says, “not my President” is way different than “not THE President”.
@callicrates_
I have lots of female friends AND male friends, because… Wait for it… I see them all as human beings. Men do not have a monopoly on being interesting and fun company. Far from it in fact!
@TheRickWilson
First thing I asked you when you came on my Clusterfucked podcast was if you even considered yourself a Republican anymore and you said “There is no Republican party. It’s just the Trump party now”.
@joshtpm
It’s like that time in 2020 when the Biden campaign and key supporters secretly conspired to convince Amy Klobuchar, Mayor Pete and others to drop out and endorse Biden. Up until that point, this had never happened in American politics.
@jmart
@ScottJenningsKY
Could you use your journalistic expertise and tell us which one of the two candidates actually avoids debates on a regular basis?
@KevinMKruse
At least 50% of what they post legitimately makes Biden look good. Like recent videos where he’s petting a dog and handing out ice cream. Sick burns by the RNC!
Never mind polling, I feel like the media has to come to the grips with the fact that they get played by GOP operatives constantly. Not just on the numbers but on the supposed issues that are animating voters.
@SarahLongwell25
@maggieNYT
There’s no doubt in my mind that a significant portion of Trump’s base could be convinced that Kim Jong-un is a better person than Joe Biden.
@joshtpm
@tedcruz
@AOC
I suggested someone kindly let Ted Cruz know last week that he’ll never be president. I think there should be an intervention with Josh Hawley as well. You’re not going to be president. The country will not embrace you. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
@SarahLongwell25
It really can’t be stated enough that there is no basis in reality for Americans who have doubts about the election. The leader of Marco‘s party is a conspiracy theory nut and Marco enables that every day. That’s the source of the “doubt”.
This isn’t true anymore. The GOP base are not Bush Republicans. It’s the Trump party now. A decent chunk of his voters pick up their toys & go home if he’s not the nominee especially as he torches the GOP on his way out. If your whole base doesn’t show up, swing voters are moot.
Election predictions are hard, but I'm confident that if the GOP nominated Haley, she would beat Biden in a walk. Dems are lucky that's not going to happen.
@natsechobbyist
@jaketapper
20 years in Afghanistan and no one has come up with a specific plan/policy for the country… Until this random summer week when all kinds of experts on the right and the left (including ex-military leaders) know exactly what should’ve been done. Amazing!
My convo with fired up North Carolina Democratic Chair
@abreezeclayton
about how Democrats can take North Carolina. Note: the last part of our chat is about the Governor’s race where she correctly predicted the GOP would nominate extremist Mark Robinson.
In the latest Clusterfucked episode, I talk with
@BillKristol

Important to remember Trump supporters told you we had to elect him because Hillary Clinton couldn’t be trusted with classified info. They were up in arms about like 6 emails. I know everyone knows this but still, I feel they need to be reminded.
Breaking ABC: Months after leaving office, Trump allegedly discussed potentially sensitive information about U.S. nuclear submarines with a member of Mar-a-Lago — an Australian billionaire who then allegedly shared the information with scores of others.
@AccountableGOP
Chris Christie equating the Bidens with the Trumps actually helps Trump because it does the both sides thing again when Trump and his family are actually huge outliers. Hunter Biden never had a job in government.
I find this hilarious. The core of the GOP base hated Romney. They hated McCain. They hated Bush. Establishment Republicans are still having a hard time either believing this or accepting it.
@RadioFreeTom
@11thHour
@TheRickWilson
Imagine trying to explain to someone from a foreign country that this is a political story.
“Bed, Bath and Beyond has dropped My Pillow.”
The GOP has added more voters to their coalition who are traditionally hard to turn out regularly and the Democrats have done the opposite: added college educated voters who vote the most frequently. Should be factored in to midterm analysis.
Lots of focus on Dems being more engaged/energetic post-Dobbs, which is undeniably true. But to me, the GOP/Trump base appears less engaged than it was last November, which is just as big a part of the story.
This is why it’s not a Biden blow out. Even the people who saw Trump up close just will not stop enabling him. And the media should not let these clowns who served with Trump at the highest levels reform their reputations. They’re all terrible, right across the board.
🥊 Former AG Bill Barr brings down the house today at a Forum Club of Southwest Florida lunch in Naples —
and suggests he'd vote Trump if there's no Biden alternative:
"Voting for Trump is playing Russian roulette with the country. Voting for Biden is outright national suicide"
@ParkerMolloy
@RichLowry
And he’s also wrong about why Ivanka was included in the montage. It’s to clearly demonstrate that Trump is a lunatic on his own island if he truly believes the election was rigged (even his own daughter knows it’s nonsense!), but so many people still enabled him anyway.
@RachelBitecofer
@matttgross
Most of the candidates opposing Pelosi lost and many who did not oppose her won. And can you imagine Republican voters basing their support for a GOP leader on what Democrat voters think?
@prchovanec
Would Dimon ever tell Trump and his supporters to have any respect for Democrats? Any respect for the biggest cities in the country that are constantly demonized by that base? What gall to suggest it’s Dems who have to be more polite instead of the vulgar Trump and his base.
