Access to cycling is desperately regressive. An office worker on 100k who hasn't commuted in 18 months gets 51% discount on a bike. An essential worker in Dunnes gets up to 31% discount. A carer or child gets 0%. Surely there's a fairer way? @dublincycling @IrishCycle

I politely challenged a van driver on him blocking a cycle lane. "I know" was the first thing he said and the last was "Tell the Guards" He knows he's wrong and he does it because there is a zero % chance of punishment no matter what I do.

A toddler has been killed in a cul de sac by a car driver in Portlaoise. My kids are that age. It's unbearable to think about that happening. But it will continue to happen while we prioritise car drivers convenience over everyone's safety.

@otrosnosotros 40 units per hectare isn't particularly dense. Moreover, they haven't considered users. Shopping, buggy, elderly, disabled. Entry/exit from the home involves unnecessary risk, esp when wet. To store a car Loose gravel in the driveway for when you get the buggy down the stairs?

@GrantSana I know that emotional burst. Today my 3yo son who has a profound hearling loss was up with the kids in his crèche at their concert. Singing away with his magic ears. So tough for him to take part but I was the one crying! Kids are so resilient 🤩

@HarryHamishGray It's a real shame this happened. Innovative bike manufacturers going bust isn't worth gloating about. There was a huge focus on making bikes less 'stealable'. That for me is something most incumbent manufacturers ignore.

Pedestrians will be safer on side roads in the new scheme. It doesn't mention the 20 new trees either. 1.5m is too narrow. The cycle lanes should be wider.

Just before we hit the 6month mark, we reached the 2000km mark. It's been such a pleasure bringing the two kids ok daily adventures. The biggest obstacles are cars, their drivers and the total lack of cycling infrastructure. Despite it all, it's a great aul yoke

A woman driving a Ford Galaxy (so presumably has a rake of kids) accelerated really heavily towards me as I crossed the road with my baby. In hindsight it was unbelievably aggressive behaviour. Nowhere other than in a car would someone threaten a child like that.

There’s a very strong suggestion this kid was up to no good and throwing objects at drivers passing by. What next? Throwing young women under the Dart? It seems like his got his cummupance and isn’t hurt. He’ll think twice before endangering drivers again perhaps.

@FHmediastuff @GalwayCityCo Discussions shouldn't start with speed limits. The debate should be 'what do we want?' Safer roads. More people walking and cycling. Cleaner air. Quieter streets. So we should adopt solutions to achieve this. 30km/h is a known solution. Instead of adopting it, we're debating it.

@Oh_Deer_Diner It's desperate. I brought reusable water bottles in my belt and organised a handover for two more at halfway. It's very doable to avoid this with a bit of planning. But the organisers encourage all this waste, so the runners go along with it in the main.

@transportkev Handlebar bag is great for touring but could be really useful knocking about town for phone/keys/wallet/mask especially for a dress/trousers with no pockets. Waterproof too! Ortlieb back roller panniers are just so durable. Rack should be standard on a bike - like a car boot.

@AccessForAll7 @Aidan_Regan There's no need to caveat every tweet. Blue badge and adapted vehicles are implied to be treated differently. Besides cars like Ford S Max, Fiat Doblo, aren't SUVs. Land Rovers or Range Rovers need to be removed. They're not first choice for lugging wheelchairs

@ccferrie On the other side of the tracks in 2019, DoE recommended 2 sites be reserved for schools; Inspector agreed. The Board overruled only reserving one site. This is a direct result of that decision: no secondary school for 7,000 homes. Developer school demand reports are a joke.

@CitizenW0lf I think driver rage and ambivalence to traffic signals and vulnerable road users is getting worse. Many drivers can't see that they're the problem. Not pedestrians. Not cyclists. It's cars that delay cars.
