Joe McAnthony was an outstanding investigative journalist. His investigation of the Hospitals Sweepstakes was brilliant. The Sunday Independent editor at the time, Conor O’Brien, anticipated a backlash and published the full 10,000 word script on just one Sunday. That backlash.

The prospect of Mairead McGuinness becoming President is appalling. She voted against a motion in the European Parliament to provide further resources to save lives in the Mediterranean. She then gave a false explanation for doing so. She has to be stopped.

It’s wonderful how our politicians are grappling with the calamitous world events that have unfolded, including Verona Murphy’s threat to democracy here and perhaps Europe. Well done.

There is no reason why we can’t have a new government next Tuesday. FF/FG need to lock in 8 Independents, which should take an hour and a half. Then an agreed programme for government can be rattled out in a few hours by someone good on a typewriter. And Bob’s your uncle. Or if.

The Journal’s coverage of the election is superb. See it’s FactCheck on last night’s debate.

Fine Gael’s conduct in this election campaign has been extraordinary. At the outset it devised a budget that broke promises to keep social welfare payments in step at least with inflation, the failure over 13 years to provide houses for those who need them, the spectacular.

Social Justice Ireland has delivered a devastating critique of the budget. It states: ‘Government has reneged yet again on the commitment it made in its Programme for Government to protect core social welfare rates and has again failed to benchmark social welfare’. ‘It has.

I first knew her in 1968. She lived behind Hatch Street. I remember she playing “If I had a hammer” again and again and again. She wrote for Magill brilliantly. She was great fun but, at times, difficult. I remember her particularly from a press conference on the publication of.

Astonishingly Labour UK won 64% of seats in Parliament while winning just 34% of the seats! A triumph?.

There was atone when TDs were not allowed to read speeches. Minister were allowed to read speeches in limited circumstances. This should be revived.

RTE’s refusal to give equal time to all candidates for EU Parliament is wrong. Yes, this is cumbersome and, at times, not scintillating, but essential. We did it on TV3, so why not on RTÉ.

There were 48 victims also in a fire in Dromcollogher, Co Limerick in 1926. The then Minister for Home Affairs (Justine), Kevin O’Higgins, was asked at the funerals whether there be an inquiry. He replied “that is not in contemplation”. There was no inquiry.

The condition in which asylum seekers are living on the streets of Dublin is beyond appalling. The former Jury’s hotel nearby is vacant. The US embassy has acquired the site but surely they could delay taking it over. What about Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park?.
