The Luas was highly successful both in terms of passenger demand which far outstripped predictions and economically how it covers it's operational costs... So, why didn't we keep building tram routes and why are none under construction?

France just keeps building more trams. This is Avignon, opened in 2019. Only 3 miles so far, but (from what I could find) 4,000 daily riders. Typically of French trams, fates are integrated with bus, and there’s a stop at the train station.

Remind me again why Dublin didn't continue building two-way cycle paths after the success of the Grand Canal Cycleway. London and Paris ploughed ahead with two-way routes as central parts of their networks. Two-way paths on Pearse St etc could be built in a week.

For those in the back: The blue is legally defined as the city centre. The yellow (my rough outline) will still allow cars in and out, but it will be harder to drive through. The red lines on the quays are around about where the bus gates will be. This isn't a car ban.

Dublin City Council is not banning cars from the city centre, far from it. The plan is to give priority to walking, cycling buses and trams by stopping through traffic just in a part of the core city centre while still allowing car access. This is totally misleading journalism:

Fantastic: 1. Council install 'bicycle street' (cyclists have priority but car access allowed) 2. A resident, who doesn't like it, brings the council to court on a technicality, he says it's too narrow. 3. The judge agrees with him. 4. The council removes car parking to comply🤣
