Some months ago I decided to try to make my Twitter experience less stressful
1. I don't have the app, I log in everytime, this gives head space
2. Muted lots of terms & people
3. Regularly mute threads
4. Only check DMs occasionally
5. I block without hesitation 1/2
I bought two Mars bars yesterday,one for me and one for the husband. He doesn't know I bought them so I don't feel bad that I ate them both this morning
There's a particular type of man that goes after Greta Thunberg for her climate activism, yet they have nothing to say about David Attenborough, Chris Peckham, Ben Affleck or Al Gore. Funny that. 🤔
Me: I'm fed up of Covid, it's been nearly a year now
10 yr old: I read that The Spanish flu lasted two years, I think you have just got to suck it up Mom and stop thinking about it
Me: 😯
I had to call the HSE line for vaccinations yesterday, on hold for 43 mins, that's ok we're in a pandemic. Lady who took my call sounded exhausted. She had taken a lot of abuse about the long wait times. People who answer the phone have no control over staffing, be nice to them
I'm a psychologist who listens to
@Rubberbandits
for two reasons 1) I value lived experience 2) he interviews experts. I've never heard anything inaccurate in his episodes. This is a bad take article when we are supposed to encourage people to talk about more mental health
This is a dissapointing article.I consistently tell my podcast listeners, that when I speak about mental health, I do it from a perspective of personal experience.That I'm not qualified. And when I speak to actual experts on the podcast, I let it be known.
I can't stop thinking about the taxi driver I met today, we were chatting and conversation led to him mentioning his wife, she died 20 yrs ago, he lifted his phone and showed me the picture of her on his screensaver, he kissed the picture and whispered I love you. 💔
My two children are tucked up safe, asleep in their beds. My heart breaks for the children in

Not everyone will share my excitement, but I heard some rustling in this pot and I'm delighted to see bats in there.

Question for bat twitter. There is a well decomposed one in there too, should I remove it?
This is disappointing & patronising. The 'opposition' isn't creating division. The Irish people are not influenced by the opposition, they are influenced by the horrors they witness. Irl has been strong on statements but it hasn't translated into action. 1/
The Tánaiste has defended the Govt's position on South Africa's case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. South Africa has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and the Govt is being criticised for not supporting the case |

This is one of the most disgusting tweets I have ever read. Addiction can impact anyone, people who have mental health difficulties & people who have experienced psychological trauma struggle to access services.
Stop using the 'j' word, start calling for more services. 1/2
A student paid more per month in rent than I pay for my mortgage.
She was asked to wash her dinner plates in the ensuite and to avoid cooking in the kitchen. Her former landlady then posted a photo & the name of the student on her social media account. It is indefensible.
I know how much I paid for my house, I don't know how much its worth financially now, I do know it's worth psychologically and socially, especially for my children. Secure housing links with physical & mental wellbeing. Housing as a commodity, limits how you see its real value
This time 23 years ago I was getting ready to move to Cork to study in UCC as a mature student. Last week I was promoted to senior lecturer. Today is my birthday, so lots of emotions this week.
I could never have imagined the opportunities that lay ahead. 1/
Grim day in Cork. Dog killed a baby rabbit in the garden eldest is inconsolable. Youngest eager to conduct post mortem. Coffin has been made & bunny is being waked overnight with funeral tomorrow. I shall do the catering
I grew up in a social housing estate aka council estate, none of the houses were "free" some families rented, some families bought. And FYI we prefer the terms working class or low income to 'the poor'.
For the first time in the State we have people who enter homelessness with no addiction issues, but develop substance dependence in homelessness as a result of the misery & trauma of having no home. Can we talk about failed housing policy & its impact on increased addiction.
Fine Gael TD
@campaign4kehoe
says he’s ashamed of O’Connell street, wouldn’t send any tourists down there and it’s full of ‘druggies, crime, alcohol, takeaways’
In my work I often see the rooms & conditions that families in homelessness live in, with no end in sight, often moved weekly. Not provided with meals so they eat takeaways. I have seen how they are looked at. Maybe its all relative but 12 days quarantine is a temporary hardship
1. "Why do people who pay their taxes not get these houses?" Majority of people living in social housing are working & pay tax. I grew up in a social housing estate, about 90% of my neighbours were working. They work in essential jobs, such as home help, mechanics, cleaners etc
There have been times in my life when I should have stepped back from things for the sake of my mental health, but I didn't, I wasn't brave enough. That Simone Biles at aged 24 with the eyes of the world on her, has the courage to do so, is absolutely commendable.
Just finished my last lecture of the day, in a room to the left in this picture, and sometimes it's good to sit here for a while and remember that when I started as a mature student that I couldn't have imagined the possibilities that lay ahead.
Don't normalise or expect 100% attendance, it models an unhelpful approach to well-being. And while we're at, stop giving attendance awards, it's toxic for children in general and unattainable for children with medical/disability issues. Normalise self-care instead.
This doesn't represent the Irish people - the Gov needs to represent it's people.
Look who we are lumped in with - absolutely disgusted
Mícheal & Leo this will be your legacy - not viewed as neutral but as critical
The human rights lawyers in my timeline say its a reasonable case
As we approach tomorrow's hearings, this is how states have thus far reacted to South Africa's ICJ application. I expect more reactions to come as of tomorrow, though, so I will continue to update this as events progress.
I met my husband when I was 15, that was 29 yrs ago. We have very different political views but a lot of shared interests & that's absolutely fine because we are individuals with our own minds who respect each other. Discussing a female politicians' personal relationship is wrong
very distressing stories on

today - Sandra who is in her 50s and is single, cannot afford rent, is living in a shed with electricity but no running water, she feels shame. the shame is not hers, as a nation the shame is ours not Sandra's
What if there was a will to fit solar panels on homes of people struggling with fuel poverty. Reduce energy bills and excess goes into the grid. My electricity bill for Dec/Jan was €81. Half of the power generated went back to the grid 1/

When you police the spelling and grammar of others on social media, it reveals more about you than the person you attack. It is disrespectful to people with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. It is also often used as a form of classism.

People's records Paul. The rhetoric isn't washing. You have gone against the survivors, human rights lawyers & activists. But keep trying to convince yourself. Shameful

I don't see division in the people of Irl, in fact I can't think of an issue in recent times where there has been such cohesion on a position. Across ages, genders, social classes and ethnicities. The people are united in their call for the slaughter of Palestinians to stop.
The European Union is founded on the following values:
Human dignity
Freedom
Democracy
Equality
Rule of law
But they apply these values inconsistently and through the lens of colonialism and racism.
Stop letting children die.
Looking forward to his column tomorrow where he is outraged by women and children crammed into domestic violence refuges and direct provision, over crowding in Traveller accommodation and families in emergency accommodation
Irish family just in from Australia where there’s basically no cases. All have neg tests. Because they transited through Dubai for 45 mins, the 5 of them are locked against their will in a tiny hotel room for 12 days. Don’t tell me this is proportionate to the risk. It’s obscene
If I were to rent out the bedrooms in my house at the average price of a room to rent in Cork it would generate €2,880 per month. If I were to do the same in Dublin it would net me about €5000. My mortgage is €950.

Causes of housing crisis in Ireland
✅️ housing policy (see for example reports by ESRI, Central Bank, Dept of Housing, etc.)
❌️ Brexit, COVID, war, the opposition benches, Nimbys, migrants
There are a number of politicians who have ignored the crisis in Mental Health services for decades. Irl has been in the EU top 5 for death by suicide & drug related death for years. I am a cynical about their sudden interest. 1/2
Hot take: people who are in power tweeting about the housing policies of a party not in power does absolutely nothing to change the current housing crisis. It looks petty & I would prefer if they spent their energy on undoing the mess that has been created.
Muting a couple of journalists & radio presenters. Opinions about approaches to Covid should be evidence based not a rant based on anecdotes. And if you notice that no health care workers or other med professionals engage with your comments but 'Patriots' do. Then shame on you.
Polite request: I see the word junkie appearing in my timeline in relation to coffee, exercise, fashion etc.. That term is deeply stigmatizing and upsets a lot of people. So please consider revising how you describe your passions.
The fellas I know who complain about masks are the same guys who watch Bear Grylls and genuinely believe they would make it to the end of the survival challenge

Don't act shocked about what is happening in Gaza, it was clear this is where it was headed. Powerful countries didn't shout ceasefire. This is on them too. I have no words, there are no words that are adequate for the murder of innocents.

Like Ciara, I have a house & healthy children. Unlike Ciara I would appear to have a wider social circle. I know families dealing with terrible financial hardship, homelessness, parental ill health, 1/
@ReginaDo
It's inappropriate to attribute any causality to these events in the absence of investigative conclusions & in fact increases the risk to people who may be vulnerable. Very irresponsible tweet that should be deleted
This was just incredible. Can someone please tell me what sort of exceptionalism is going on here? Make it make sense because I've left my frontal lobe due to rage!
“advice from « experts » is that fresh air circulating with windows open is the way to go (not HEPA filtration)”
-Min for Health recommending schools open all windows in winter in 5-10°C
Any international « experts » care to comment on this advice?
Very disappointing headline. 47,000 students is less than one third of the student population. These students would be working in retail & hospitality were it not for Covid. They are no less entitled to support than any other worker. Many students I know have loans to pay fees.
EX FF man annoyed that Hazel Chu is running for Senad, apparently it's not respectful while holding another position. Last Yr the FF Lord Mayor of Dublin ran for the Dail was elected and left office early. Tell me again how we treat women in politics with equity.

Many researchers and front line workers choose to advocate for policy change as they feel ethically required to give voice to those without agency. Any attempt to silence that is bullying.

If Sarah Carey does not know how social housing works, that it is means tested and never free, I would respectfully request that she refrains from articles about housing policy, journalism should be fact based
Multiple reports from Irl and the EU have concluded that the States housing policies have created our current situation.
People in homelessness are not to blame for the failure to build social housing.
This is a horrible attempt to avoid responsibility.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has defended his Government's record on homelessness by saying some people in emergency accommodation "refuse multiple offers to go on social housing" |
When I was 14 yrs old & said I wanted to be a psychologist & a teacher said that it would never happen, she said "you are from the council estate, you won't get anywhere". Words matter, there is no shame in social housing, report responsibly, words matter.
@sharonlambert0
Language matters. I grew up in a council house too in a large estate with all ages groups and backgrounds. It was a leg up for some, home for life for others + certainly not free. Homes for a broad group of working class people. Not a "unit" that's for sure.

Well done to
@SenLynnRuane
for her input today, I felt her frustration. It is really not good enough to have policies that are not informed by evidence. Everything that Lynn said is evidence based. Our drugs policies are based on ideology not evidence.
