Why do we love cake and ice cream? My lab's latest paper in @Cell_Metabolism led by @molly_mcdougle identifies separate gut-reward circuits for fat and sugar. Foods combining fat and sugar recruit both reward circuits to increase motivation to overeating.
New #PrePrint Alert! So proud to share our latest work examining the innate motivation to consume fats and sugars. We identify labeled lines for fat and sugar reward from the gut via nigrostriatal dopamine that combine to promote overeating.
