It’s been an honour to work with so many impressive people this year on a plan to stop failing pupils on free school meals. My report - out today - explains how we got into this situation and, more importantly, how to get out of it.

Yesterday @instituteforgov published a report on public service priorities for the new government. This is what Una O'Brien, former Permanent Secretary at Department of Health, & @_JonathanSlater, former Permanent Secretary at Department for Education had to say about the report
NEW REPORT: Current spending plans are less generous than any of the 5 spending reviews by Blair + Brown. Without a bold programme of public service reform most most public services will be performing worse at the next election in 28/29 than pre-pandemic🧵 https://t.co/0dXhoyUDQI

Working in Tony Blair’s delivery unit was an honour 20 years ago, but today’s challenges demand new answers. Let’s liberate public servants, unleashing their creativity and compassion to serve citizens in ways which top down rule-makers can only dream of.
Reports suggest that a Labour government may bring back delivery units. But today @_JonathanSlater, who worked in Blair's fabled Delivery Unit, argues we need a different approach. https://t.co/Fqd18FPZa9 1/

At last it began to grow dark. We filled up with petrol & ammunition and made a cup of tea. I was on guard &heard 3 German planes up alone & so much flak was sent up from our bridgehead that all were shot down. We were up at first light, about 4am. D-Day was over & D+1 had begun.
