5/ Multiculturalism has used acknowledgement, recognition and symbolic inclusion to bring ethnic and faith minorities into a shared public sphere: and white working class voters should be afforded the same respect

4/ While not homogenous, a recognisable and predominantly white fraction of society characterised by education, employment, geography, values, ideas of nationhood and (relative lack of) racialised experience clearly exists and can be politically mobilised

3/ The idea of a hegemonic white majority no longer reflects a more complex reality; it does not help when some argue the white working class does not exist or should not be acknowledged
