On Tuesday, the Zaidi clan went up to Windsor Castle for my OBE investiture. Hoping this award can help raise awareness of certain campaigns at a time of zero political & media bandwith for some crises.

On the day Muslims have cancelled Eid plans, let’s not create headlines where BAME & Muslim communities are those responsible for Covid spikes. You’ve had folks at beaches, parks, protesting, Soho packed, VE Day parties.
BAME & Muslims will be on frontlines fighting the virus.

I thought of this memorial today after some scenes in Whitehall. The women of the Special Operations Executive came from all walks of life & ethnic and social backgrounds to stand up for Britain, and British values such as tolerance.
Where are so many UK feminists on Afghan women's rights? Why aren't some using their huge followings to raise awareness?
Where have you been for a year? Do you not care that there is no asylum route for Afghan women?
Such cruelty to video this.
But I wonder what happened to the inhabitants behind the building with literally only a door surround remaining. Did they survive? Where are they?

I love the outdoors. I happen to be Muslim. I can’t tell you how much my integration and feeling of Britishness is tied to a deep love and knowledge of this incredible beautiful land and I have lived in 3/4 of the nations.
The outdoors should be for all.

Thank you for highlighting these horrific stories. When ISIS first started their regime of despicable horror, I was trying to highlight abuses against Assyrians and Yezidis. Makes me sick to the core - so many lives lost and ruined
I met Sir David many times.
First time. He was looking at women’s health issues, researching on endometriosis & hidden conditions that don’t get enough attention. He was to soon set up an APPG. If the spotlight is now on women’s health, it is part his legacy.
Rest In Peace
Absolutely devastating news about Sir David Amess. He was hugely kind and good. An enormous animal lover and a true gent. This is so completely unjust. Thoughts are with his wife and their children.
As an immigrant coming to the UK as a young child, I AM grateful for the opportunities it provided & a British passport. But, it is wrong to rebuke an ethnic minority for a viewpoint (that a white person may well share), with, why can’t you just be quiet and be grateful?
Were Afghan women spoken to before the trip to Afghanistan and did they engage with women whilst there?
This video comes across as promotional material for the de facto authority.
Women are erased from public life. “Safety” where the terrorists are now in charge.

Afghans have been betrayed, the West owes them a duty of care & we must save who we can.
But let’s reach to the depths of our souls & remind people of the dangers of taking brown refugees. Shame on you for seeing this as the urgent thing you needed to write about the situation.
How many more of these? Already a movie in line with Jake Gyllenhaal saving people. And a Pen Farthing movie on the way.
And always the Western male lens.
Perhaps we could centre Afghans, maybe women's bravery?
Channing Tatum and Tom Hardy have been cast in an untitled drama about

We live in immensely difficult times. I aim to work as hard as I can to help where I can.
Well before 1809, the Brits would have come across vegetarianism in India and some Indians may have come across to the UK (eg Lascars in the East Indian Co). In Jainism, vegetarianism is mandatory; in Hinduism & Mahayana Buddhism, it is advocated by some

There is no specific route for Afghan women. Not one could apply now for asylum despite living in a prison. You know this and won’t commit to expanding the ACRS asylum categories to vulnerable groups, despite the initial stated intention

The addition of the music has me sobbing. As someone else commented, it won’t be unseen. Awful additional trauma on family, community and all those across the Middle East who revered her
Cross Party UK MPs demand more Govt action on Afghan women & girls: 1. Appoint a Special Envoy. 2. Involve Afghan women in policy making. 3. Create an ACRS route for Afghan women at risk. 4. UK negotiations must centre the rights of Afghan women and girls
Russian people are not Putin and his circle. Hugely unfair.
Also things like Oprah banned Tolstoy's War and Peace from her book club is nonsense. We can learn from books and Russia gave us wonderful literature

Criticise Priti Patel on policy, fine. She is a politician and can take it; she might expect it.
Let's not stray into mockery on the level of authenticity as an Asian. That hashtag isn't great.
Some politicians seem to polarise. Diane Abbott, Priti Patel. But play the ball pls.
I have to say to many friends on here. I know England won Euros, I know it's summer & time off, I know there is petition fatigue, I know we all face so many stresses. But during August, I will raise the issue of Afghan women & vulnerable groups. We can't forget them. We owe them.
You know a population has been utterly dehumanised when you see headlines like this. Palestines deserve our empathy; shame on us for seeing headlines for months of children dying, civilians being bombed and headlines of starvation - where little seems to change on the ground

What people don't tell you about racism. You are alone.
At the start, people tell you that you are deluded or over-sensitive or person making such statements was stressed or old fashioned. When racism is proved, you remain alone, as people feel uncomfortable & so stay silent.

It’s terrible to see this decision. Jewish celebrations are important and needed. Every community must have the right of - not only - freedom of belief but a feeling of safety too

As FCO Secretary, Mr Johnson would have been briefed about the human cost of conflict. Some communities, ravaged by terrorism, don’t have the luxury to see such things as abstract jokes (eg Libya where I spent my early childhood). This sort of thing brings real imagery & pain.

This list is too many. Our group focussed on getting out women & vulnerable Afghans but now people coming to us to help get ARAP categories out. What kills you is the silence & wait - not knowing if someone will give you that ticket to freedom, owed to you under a duty of care
Can politicians stop talking as if there are legal routes for the majority of Afghans. You have to be one of 3 narrow categories or in a refugee camp abroad. Would you risk it all by crossing sea routes if you felt you couldn’t live under the Taliban?
Everyone knows Rafah was the last place of safety. Everyone knows there are something like 1.4 million of Palestinians crammed here, many in makeshift tents.
And yet we have the news that Rafah is being bombed & there will be a ground invasion.
The world looks on.
Israel is bombing Rafah and says it’s planning a ground invasion in the area. Israel declared it a “safe zone,” but now Palestinians have no safe place to go.
The UN described Rafah as a “pressure cooker of despair.” Israeli bombardment has killed 27,000+ Palestinians.

European countries should take as many Ukrainian refugees as they can because it is the right thing to do. But no need to use language of The Good Immigrant to show they aren’t like other refugees; no need to dehumanise. Too much of this across on the media.

Going offline for a while. More to be responsible than upset. When you have had racist tweets for a few hours, you are going to be less clear minded and more emotional.
Best to go watch Netflix.
I have nothing but love for all those who engaged the last few hours to support.
From people praising a UK Muslim commentator for being in a church over Christmas to Mo Salah confusing people with his Christmas posts... clearly people don't know that much of the Muslim world has strong Christian communities & it's common to celebrate each other's traditions

I want to rectify one mistake I did when RTing a tweet on Afghan women protesting. The tweet I RTed only mentioned an attack on girls education - when the primary motivation was that the girls were ethnic Hazara.
Please ensure you centre Hazaras when RTing on Afghan protests.

That is quite a paragraph. And some intellectual justification to be against the Holocaust Memorial because it might lead to support for more immigrants from the third world. Let me guess, like my dad who worked for four decades as a doctor?
Any close read of the documentation shows that the Rwanda deal isn’t offshore processing; it’s relinquishing duties under international law to process asylum seekers in exchange for cash to the Rwanda Government.
Huge:
Rwanda’s lead legal negotiator for the partnership has told
@LBC
the refugees sent by U.K. Home office are being sent for *relocation*
She says “this is not an offshore processing mechanism…they are being sent for relocation into Rwandan society”
It's not "processing abroad" to those tweeting about Welby's intervention. It's deportation, outsourcing all responsibility. There is no right to return. Defend it but describe the policy as it currently stands.
(Same for those tweeting poll support for overseas processing)

I’m lucky to live in a rural area. I really feel for people in densely packed urban areas and in a flat with partners, families now on top of each other 24/7. Isn’t there a way to manage the access to park spaces rather than shut them down? People need some exercise, air

However whilst Russian forces are stretched and occupied, a chance for Ukraine in its counter offensive.
Lots of people who are on Taliban hit lists didn’t get out. The only reason we can’t mention them on here (unlike Pen Farthing) is how precarious & life threatening their position is. I really wish people would spread the attention a tad
