Hain has yet to comment on this latest fixture. An intervention from him would be welcome. But back in 1970, he insisted that a nation should only be welcomed to international fixtures if it allowed all its people, no matter their race, to play cricket. Perhaps he meant only men.

And as I make clear in the piece, I'm pretty surprised by the attitude shown to Afghanistan by Peter Hain, who led the campaign to boycott South African cricket in 1970.

Greg Barclay, the International CEO of the ICC has complained about the 'grief' he's got on this subject. He's argued that it would be unfair to punish the Afghanistan Cricket Board who "haven't done anything wrong" in implementing their country's rules.

There's plenty I couldn't include or fit into this piece about the moral failures of international institutions on this subject. Coca-Cola remains the sponsor of the ICC World Cup. I haven't found any comment from them.

Will Sigourney Weaver sound the death knell for celebrity Shakespeare? Or have we just reached peak Jamie Lloyd? . If the star forgets her speech on 'opening' night, but all the critics saw the show at an earlier performance, did it really happen?.
