Today our joint treaty with France to deter illegal migrant crossings to the UK has come into force. This is a testament to how strengthened cooperation with our European allies is delivering real action to tackle irregular migration and support our Plan for Change.
For the first time illegal migrants who cross the Channel on small boats will be detained and returned to France. Our returns pilot takes us one step closer to restoring order to the UK's immigration system and preventing life-threatening scenes like this 👇.

Putin’s response to Ukraine’s desire for peace is to kill more innocent civilians. Last night a 6 year old boy was killed by Russian strikes. UK funding is supporting the emergency response. The killing must stop. Putin must agree to an immediate ceasefire.
