I stopped doing this when a kid counted back REALLY fast, got to zero, stared at me in horror, screamed “I’M NOT ASLEEP YET!!” and burst into tears.

BlogTO come on. What if she'd killed a family in a car and/or pedestrians when she hurled that chair off the balcony? Would you still be posting her birthday pictures? It's sheer luck that no fatalities happened. This is not sending a good message.
I'm very pleased to share my article examining mental health outcomes in post-ICU patients.
Age, socioeconomic status, and physical function are all associated with worse depression scores.

Surgeon (yelling): YOU HAVE TO GIVE MORE OXYGEN THE BOWEL IS VERY BLUE!!
My consultant: Would you like me to give it IV or PR?
He winked at me and I had to hide behind the anaesthetic machine 😂

There are 33 medical schools in the U.K.
You’ve just p***ed off graduates from around 30 of them.

this is unprofessional behaviour. Do you approve of this MD citing your organisation in this disrespectful tweet? I would be checking to see exactly how this MD treats his patients.

I LOVE the term intensivist. It sounds... intense. I’m also not pulmonary trained. I say I’m an anaesthetist & intensivist.

can we get some help at Sherbourne & Esplanade? The “sidewalk closed” sign is in the middle of the 🚲 lane & forces pedestrians across the street with no crossing. Not to mention vehicles parked there all the time.

Yes! I used to roll my eyes at mum for the effort she put into the dogs food. Now our conversations go like this.
Mum: What you up to?
Me: Making dinner for Pimento.
Mum: Ooh what is she getting?
Me: Um, organic chicken breast and white rice. Homecooked.
Mum: *replies in smug*

In addition to this practice being non-consensual, it also removes the extremely important teaching point that pelvic exams can be PAINFUL and TRAUMATIC.
Talking to the patient, reassurance, and performing the exam as gently as possible are all removed in this situation.

On my cycle home, every intersection from King/Bathurst to King/Jarvis is blocked between about 4-6pm. Streetcars can’t move, pedestrians weaving through the cars, cyclists trying to avoid the streetcar tracks…. It’s a mess. And the drivers don’t even look embarrassed 🤦♀️😅
Today cycling to work, I overtook EIGHT vehicles parked in the Gerrard bike lane between Church & Bay.
EIGHT obstructions in TWO blocks (including

This is just fulfilling a tick-box exercise, and places the responsibility for wellness squarely on the shoulders of the trainee, and not on the environment in which they are working.
I’m in Singapore, it’s 8am. I’ve worked on a presentation, been the gym, and had breakfast. Who am I?? Should I move here?? Or is this just jet lag 😅

This is Pimento who was abandoned with her puppies, brought over from Mexico, and now living the high life in Toronto. She is wonderful. The puppies all went to good homes too!
So I guess it was inevitable after all my complaining about
#bikesafety
. Hit by a car in a "protected" bike lane, by a driver turning right without looking. Sad thing is, having cycled in Toronto for 3 years, I knew it would happen eventually.

I just need everyone to know that a therapy dog named Koko visited the ICU today and left a calling card. In an unrelated event I was also given a squeezy kidney. It has been a day of wellness 🦮❤️

She had right of way and was on a crosswalk. The driver turned right over the crosswalk, ran over her, didn't realise and drove away.
It was described as a "momentary lapse" and he was "otherwise a generally good employee".
Whether he actually drives TTC again, I don't know.

I had a colleague who was told that leave for his own wedding “can’t be guaranteed”. He replied that he would be at his wedding whether leave was granted or not.

So basically make it harder for them from the start so that they get used to it??
Training people in a crappy system to be more resilient isn’t the answer. Change the system.

This is one of my favourites / spot the poor lane divider under the truck. The driver called me “f***ing stupid” when I pointed it out.

Interesting. I'm a cyclist (and pedestrian!) and I pay tax. Unsure how much is going towards road infrastructure. I'd say that 🚶♀️& 🚴♀️ cause less damage to the roads, and travel many many less km, than cars. So how would we even it out?

Patient on the phone.
Me: “Hi I’m Dr Hamilton, I’m one the anesthetic doctors.”
Patient: “I’ll have to go the nurse is here.”
It doesn’t make a difference.
