We found that patients in the US received mechanical ventilation at a rate 4 times higher than in England and twice that in Canada. Interestingly: 1. Rates diverged markedly in older patients. 2. More patients ventilated in US had a diagnosis of Dementia or Renal Disease. 4/6

So we looked at patients aged 20 years or older in 2018 who received mechanical ventilation across three high-income countries with different intensive care unit bed availability: the US, Canada and England. 3/6
