Apparently I need to write the following and pin it to Twitter:
Promoted by Rob Brookes on behalf of Steve Hynd and Stroud District Green Party, at 17 Great George St, Bristol BS1 5QT.
Which honestly seems weird. But it’s literally the law
I’m really pleased to be able to say that Stroud will be run through a cooperative alliance of
@TheGreenParty
@UKLabour
and
@LibDems
cllrs. Proud to be part of it.

So this was the leader of the opposition today - few weeks away from the election - out supporting a campaign to ... wait for it ... unseat a couple of
@TheGreenParty
Cllrs in Southville Bristol.
That will really stick it to the Tories Keir! 🤦♂️
Another
@TheGreenParty
gain. This time for ME :)
Just been elected as a Stroud District Cllr for The Stanleys (alongside a few other gains for
@StroudGreens
today!)
I’m going to have an ice cream.
Hey
@PennyMordaunt
- I worked for
@BristolCouncil
when
@GeorgeFergusonx
introduced 20mph across the whole city - studies would later show this move saved 4 lives a year. Say this to a parent who has had a child killed
It’s lovely to see how many people on Twitter are saying they plan to vote for
@TheGreenParty
in the south west because of
@MollyMEP
’s hard work an proven track record. Seeing her work close up I can 100% say she is one of the hardest working people I know.
Seventy-four MPs, peers and MEPs have written to the NCA and the MET seeking reassurances that they are pursuing criminal investigations into Vote Leave (hat tip to
@MollyMEP

@BenPBradshaw
who coordinated this)
Greens overnight: GAIN 2 seats in South Tyneside (from Lab) & 1 in Colchester (from LD). & first ever Greens elected to Northumberland (Alnwick and Humshaugh divisions gained from Con) and Stockport (Reddish South gained from Lab) with huge swings. 1 HOLD in Nuneaton & Bedworth.
Hey UK. Hi. Yes it’s me. The guy who reminds you these are EU wide elections. This means:
1) The Brexit Party can’t “win them”
2) Who you vote for only matters in relation to which group they are sitting in.
3) Greens are expected to grow their votes across all of the EU
Greens win every council seat in target Bristol Central constituency and cement role as largest party on Council amid “record breaking” election campaign -
3 suggestions for taking back control:
1) launch Muller style investigation into referendum.
2) revoke article 50 until results are in
3) put forward package of democratic reform (PR, house of lords reform, written constitution
Lots more to do but this is a starting point.
I’m voting
@TheGreenParty
tomorrow because I want my MEP to work with colleagues across the EU on the big issues like climate change, tax avoidance and farming. I know that
@MollyMEP
is the best person on all these issues.
To
#StopBrexit
and fight climate change
#votegreen2019
For journalists saying "Greens are actually having quite a good showing this time around" - just a gentle reminder that we more than quadrupled our number of Cllrs from 2019 to 2023 local elections. But yes we are having a good showing
The framing of this is interesting -
@TheGreenParty
gaining an additional MP is “a headache” for Labour. Not say “a clear message that many want want climate and social justice for example
"At a time when other parties are losing members hand over fist, we have been increasing our membership"
@carla_denyer
- hundreds have joined in the last few days alone.
Last day before the by-election in Painswick & Upton.
@TheGreenParty
came second here last time by just a few hundred votes. Many Tories switching to Greens, & Lib Dem/Lab voters lending their votes to Greens as they know it’s a two horse race between Greens/Conservatives here
Today myself,

Blue turning Green. This is the moment Gary Luff was elected as the 14th sitting

I often see British cycling people tweet about cycling tunnels in Norway as a “isn’t this incredible”. It is. And we should demand more segregated cycle ways. But this isn’t just something abroad. We have these in the UK too. This is the two-tunnel route outside Bath.
Just hear to say that like

I see

If you want to restore faith in democracy:
1) introduce electoral reform and a form of PR
2) reform the House of Lords
3) launch full investigation on back of DCMS report on fake news and how democracies can operate in digital age.
If you did this I might believe this tweet

Happy birthday to

Reader,the best thing you can do to make sure Molly has a good birthday is promise to vote Green on Thursday!
Incredible. If you had told me last week that a
@TheGreenParty
cllr would be taking up a cabinet role in North Somerset council I wouldn’t have believed you!
new councils where Greens have cllrs: Braintree, Colchester, Cotswold, Derbyshire Dales, E.Hertfordshire, Folkestone & Hythe, Melton, NW Leicestershire, Somerset West & Taunton, S.Lakeland, S.Oxfordshire, S.Tyneside, St Helens, Sunderland, Tameside, Vale of White Horse

Big local story, Glos County Cllr Sue Williams has defected to
@TheGreenParty
- this moves the council from Tory run to NOC.
This is the 2nd cllr to defect to
@StroudGreens
in a year (Helen Fenton, former Labour District cllr for Chalford joined us earlier this year).

This is our moment to make it happen. Failure isn't an option.
Conservatives and Greens win a seat each for the Stanleys ward on Stroud District Council.
Nigel Studdert-Kenney and Steve Hynd are elected.

We can make this happen.
Bristol West general election prediction as at 09/05/2023:
Greens 46.6% (+21.7%)
Labour 42.5% (-19.8%)
Conservatives 5.0% (-6.7%)
Lib Dems 3.3% (new)
Reform UK 1.2% (new)
Others 1.4%
Prediction: Green GAIN from Labour

A frequent flyer levy is so such a good and obvious policy. A tiny % of people are taking a massive % of flights and contributing a massive amount to GHG emissions.
It is only right they should pay more and face economic disincentives.
A carbon price on air tickets is a step is the right direction, but a voluntary one will achieve nothing
Aviation is shirking its responsibilities for the
#climatecrisis
We need a frequent flyer levy so those who fly the most pay the most
It’s worth noting that because Greens got more Cllrs this time they have a much more robust role in the alliance. In other words, Green votes = more Green power and influence.
"The Greens have become an increasingly widely established force in local government. They are now in pole position to be the go-to alternative on Labour’s left flank if Starmer becomes prime minister"
Emotional moment for Bristol Greens between Green group leader Emma Edwards and party co-leader Carla Denyer. They are officially the biggest party in the council

“the national Labour Party have informed our local Labour colleagues that they currently do not have their approval to take part in a cooperative alliance”
The same happened here in Stroud. This is as embarrassing as it is awful
@UKLabour
Bristol people are in an incredible situation. Vote Green and you can realistically get a Green MP. Worst case scenario is you keep your current Labour MP. Lib Dem’s (TM) - and of course Tories - can’t win here. Dream big. Vote Green and GTTO!
🆕 Labour’s majority will be HALVED in the new Bristol Central constituency when the boundary changes announced this week come into force, according to Green Party data.

Meanwhile the Wales Green Party leader Anthony Slaughter said: "It's beyond disappointing that this backward step is even being considered. The 20mph limit works and makes our streets safer and more welcoming for all users. The data proves this."
I main thing I see here is that Labour feel sufficiently threatened by Greens to make stuff up and go on the attack.
As Labour become increasingly beige the contrasting vibrancy of
@TheGreenParty
shines through.
I’ve been blown away with how lovely and supportive people have been across the ward I represent (Selsley, King and Leonard Stanley, Frocester and Stanley Downton).
It’s really humbling meeting people
