Hi - @BristolCouncil sold cranes for scrap in 70’s. We (City Docks Ventures Ltd) bought them back and shamed the city into buying them back off us, which then enabled us to buy the old Pill ferry ‘Margaret’ the first #Bristol boat @BristolFerry opening eyes to leisure potential. .
The four huge cranes outside @mshedbristol museum were last used in 1974. In the 1980s a plan to sell them for scrap metal was stopped due to public outrage and they were officially bought by the city from private ownership. They’re now beloved icons of #Bristol.
