You join, because it’s a true vocation, because you have an innate sense of right or wrong. Because you believe, above all else, in the preservation of life, and of law, order, and society. When you are no longer willing to sacrifice everything, for that, it’s time to stand down.
#stormzy
wearing a stab vest on stage, is considered “edgy”, apparently it’s a “statement”.
Politicians and “celebs” are fawning over it.
Try wearing one, every shift.
Stab vests are not a fucking fashion accessory.
When I joined, if on foot patrol, and a hearse passed, you stopped, removed your headgear, and bowed your head.
You had no idea who had died, or what they had done with their life, good, or bad.
It was a simple mark of respect.
Some of you appear to have forgotten that concept.
Can you imagine, if rape alarms were activated en-masse yesterday, horses bolted through crowds and people were killed.
And, then it came to light that The Met knew of the threat, but did nothing about it?
Those complaining now, would be the first to complain then.

Did an online shop from

Delivery driver mentions, she normally has more bags.
Mum says, they didn’t have everything, inc soap powder/softener.
2hrs later, he returns, with both items, from another shop for her, off his own back.

You can’t quantify the harm this sort of thing does.
No point in issuing apologies, explanations or reassurances “advice will be given” - too late, the damage is done.
And the regular officer behind who happily just lets it unfold.
Give me strength.
Your wife, husband, parentless child, none of them will get any satisfaction or comfort from pointing at a “rule” in the Highway Code.
You’ll still be dead.
Do not cycle past large vehicles on the nearside, particularly, if you know, or think they might not have seen you.
I don’t know how many “traumatic incidents” I experienced in 30yrs, after a while I didn’t consider anything traumatic, I just thought I was the same as everyone else.
Now I’ve retired, and I’m amongst “everyone else”, I’m very, very aware I’m not the same, not at all.
During their careers, each police officer is likely to encounter between 400 to 600 traumatic events. Most citizens will experience between three or four in their lifetime.
How do you know they didn’t look?
Put a cycle lane, to the nearside of a right hand drive vehicle (particularly a large one), there is a point where it’s not possible to see.
For years cyclists have been warned of this, yet still they place their entitlement above their life.
Hello
@LondonFire
Is there any chance you could follow your own advice?
Left turning trucks failing to look out for cyclists at junctions is the most deadly thing when it comes to cycling around London.
Seems to be something this driver of yours has forgotten.
Can you imagine if this were the U.K. an officers senior managers coming out so quickly in support?
The PCC likewise, the press, the media, the public, all commending their bravery?
No, there would be doubt, criticism, arse covering and the IOPC would be sharpening their pencils.
You do understand that by deploying Taser (which is a lower level of force than a physical strike) he was dealt with, don’t you? Not only that neither he, nor any Officer, or any member of the public was injured.
You do understand that, don’t you?
Actually, you probably don’t.
Embarrassing, 4 Met police officers can't deal with one unruly man today in Uxbridge so taser him.
Imagine if the taser deployer was white we’d be experiencing diversity riots right now.
I’m watching the

My main take is;
“Wind your necks in, let us do our job, and shut the fuck up”.
I spent 30yrs policing.

How that interaction went, was entirely up to them.

It is a fundamental aspect of Policing, that it should be conducted without fear or favour, and, most importantly, without political interference.
For the avoidance of doubt, that ended today.
If you’re at an incident with multiple casualties, the ones shouting, screaming and making a lot of noise are alive, you can ignore them. It’s the ones you can’t hear you need to attend to first, don’t use up all your oil on the squeaky wheel.
Twitter is a bit like that.
In some ways, I find this depressing.
The Skipper is right, he’s bang on.
But, he’s old school, and he’s alone.
Everyone else, is playing by the College of Policing book of rules, placating and explaining.
Sometimes, no discussion, no explanation, just do as you’re fucking told.

Is this a good time to remind people, that, under Common Law, it is an offence to fail to assist a Constable when required - unless it is physically impossible, or you have reasonable excuse not to do so?

I can’t be the only person who thinks it is highly unprofessional for a policeman to be drinking coffee on the street whilst he is working and policing an event.
For those parents, worried about their kids making a different vaccine decision to them.
A reminder.
Your teenage daughter, can be prescribed the contraceptive pill, without your knowledge.
And there is a greater clotting risk, than the vaccine.
A violent man takes the lives of others.
A police officer places her own life in danger and neutralises the threat he poses.
She then desperately tries to save his life.
For some of you, that still isn’t enough.

Obviously the bloke was totally in the wrong with the stop, and his attitude.
However, as he passed you, he was fully on the other carriageway, what happened before this that isn’t shown on this clip, why are you waving your arm in an angry (threatening?) way?
If you want to be a police officer, you no longer need a degree.
Word of advice - you don’t need to be in a WhatsApp group either.
If you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face, don’t write it in a message, “end to end encryption” means fuck all.
I literally enforced the law for 30yrs, over half of which was spent serving on a Road Traffic Dept.
Yet I have a “software engineer” (and cyclist, obviously), telling me I don’t understand how the “law works”.
Of course I don’t, not the first idea.

In exactly the same way you couldn’t see a Police Officer, when he was standing right behind you.
You can’t see any women in this photograph.
The problem with Police Promotion is, in order to get promoted, you need to know, accept and adhere to the flawed policies and procedures under which Policing now operates.
And, those who already do all of those things, are the ones who approve your promotion.

For me, it was a true vocation, lifelong, totally committed, that’s still within me.
But, if I were serving today, I’d be looking to leave, and there is no way on God’s earth I’d join.
#TJF
I know I’m a dinosaur, and no-one really cares what I think.
But, during the 30yrs, I served, I cannot think of a single Officer, who would have put on their uniform, painted their face, and danced, in public.
And thought, that, that was, in any way, appropriate or acceptable.

I take absolutely no pleasure in posting this, but some comments from retired police accounts (one of whom I sadly had to block yesterday) attacking officers currently working, increasingly make me question whether indeed they themselves did always police without “favour”?
Actually Steve, I’m not a Police “Bootlicker”, but I was a Police Officer for 30yrs, including for a significant amount of time on a search team.
Try volunteering as a Special Constable, then, at least you could comment from an informed position, instead of out of your arse.

What’s gone wrong is that teachers have been over generous in their grading, and given students false expectations.
Mock exams should provide an accurate predictor of likely grades, the question you should be asking of schools, is why haven’t they?

Am I being too simplistic to suggest that for a number of years now policing has been making more effort to accept applications, than it has been in finding reasons to reject them? 🤔
Policing does virtually nothing to support officers prior to, and post retirement, you are literally forgotten, the concept of the police “family” is bollocks.
Once retired, you are an outsider both to the job, and the society you’ve given everything to.
