Really disappointing tonight to see and hear Members of Parliament booing and jeering other members for exercising their parliamentary privilege to cast a vote. The lack of basic courtesy and respect is unbefitting of the way we as elected members should carry ourselves.
Attacks by
@pierrepollievre
on Canadian media & journalists is from the playbook of the extreme right in the US 🇺🇸. By attacking the
@CBC
Conservatives are undermining an important source of news for rural 🇨🇦. Today I asked
@justinTrudeau
about our support for local media.
Good idea Leslyn… let’s take Canada 🇨🇦 out of an international forum with 193 countries around the world. This stuff is actually bat shit crazy, and I don’t know what is more ridiculous the fact she is peddling this stuff or that she sits in the
@CPC_HQ
Shadow Cabinet.
It’s wrong & deeply concerning
@PierrePoilievre
has tagged his videos to court misogynist groups, that espouse hate of women. It is unbefitting of a MP and public leader & he should apologize. For women & those men who respect women, take notice this isn’t a casual mistake.
Absolutely gross to watch this disgrace by
@PierrePoilievre
and the
@CPC_HQ
showing a complete lack of disrespect towards the Speaker of the House, by this fake outrage that he should not be able to read a statement before starting QP.
@MelissaLantsman
take a step out of the GTA and understand the importance of our seafood industry to Atlantic Canada 🇨🇦.
@L_MacAulay
is abroad promoting a product that sustains jobs & livelihoods in our region, like Hall’s Harbour Lobster 🦞 Do jobs in our region not matter?
Always with the Lobster with these guys…
Canadians are visiting food banks in record numbers, and people are having to choose between filling up their car, heating their home and feeding their family.
Minister eating 🦞in the Malaysian ☀️ on your dime and posts about it to…
What a historic day. Today Prime Minister
@JustinTrudeau
visited Fraser Valley Farm in Hardwoodlands to announce $255M towards wind projects in Nova Scotia, much of which will be in Kings-Hants.
This morning I am in Ottawa to take my seat for the return to Parliament. The recent events are a stark reminder that our democracy & rule of law can never be taken for granted. It's a reminder that will guide my work today & my opportunity to address the House this evening.
Watching the events unfold in Ottawa, I want to thank those law enforcement officers who are doing the extremely difficult work of trying to enforce the law on individuals who do not want to abide. It’s not an easy job, but you have my support.
My thoughts are with the families whose loved ones were found deceased today. Our communities are mourning with you. To the families of those who are still missing; we are with you. Thank you to all the first responders who are tirelessly searching to bring your loved ones home.
I couldn’t be prouder..
✅ Doubling the rural supplement from 10% to 20%
✅ An exemption for heating oil until 2026.
✅ A significant program to help you install heat pumps, and a $250 incentive to do so.
This is leadership in action, affordability and environment together.
Disappointed, but not surprised, to see
@CPC_HQ
’s climate “vision” actually incentivizes burning fossil fuels through Erin O’Toole’s Carbon Tax - where, quite literally, the more you burn 🔥, the more you earn. 🧐
The Atlantic Economic Forum brought together a diverse group of leaders for our region dedicated to building sustainable economic growth. One highlight was connecting with former PM Brian Mulroney
@scottbrison
and PM
@JustinTrudeau
all passionately committed to Atlantic Canada 🇨🇦
Today I wrote to
@TimHoustonNS
suggesting that if he doesn’t believe the federal carbon pricing plan, including the Canada Carbon Rebate, is in the best interests of Nova Scotia, he should work with Atlantic Premiers to develop a regional pricing approach. See my letter below 👇
There are 1M households in 🇨🇦 still using heating oil to heat their homes. It’s 2-4X more costly and is terrible for the environment. That’s why we launched a national program to help these vulnerable Canadians make the switch. It’s the right thing to do, across the country.
It’s unbelievable that
@CPC_HQ
is against Bill C-49, legislation that matters deeply for Atlantic Canada. Everyday this bill sits in the House is a delay in the global fight for climate change and prosperity for our region. Premiers Houston and Furey are on board why not the CPC?
Bill C49 is all about advancing Atlantic Canada’s 🇨🇦 clean energy future. It builds upon the successful Atlantic Accords, to enable billions in economic opportunities for our region, while fighting climate change.
@TimHoustonNS
@FureyAndrew
are on board, where is the
@CPC_HQ
?
I’m very pleased to be back in Ottawa this week and to be preparing for the return to Parliament in November. I’m also feeling grateful ahead of tomorrow, when I will be sworn in as Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants.
April 27th is always a somber day for our family. 17 years ago, we lost Dad after he was injured on the job a week before. Days like today I wish I could have a few minutes with him, but I am proud everyday to be an MP whose father drove a truck. Thinking of you today, Dad.
Today in the
@OurCommons
I highlighted the need for all Parliamentarians to be focused on ways in which we can double our electricity generation in 🇨🇦. There is no credible pathway to net-neutral without more nuclear energy, and it has to play a larger role in the conversation.
Thank you, Kings-Hants! Last week, I was sworn in as the MP for Kings-Hants for the 44th session of Parliament. I’m extremely privileged to have the opportunity to be your voice in the House of Commons. I’ll continue to work hard to be an effective advocate for our region.
Wow… what a speech! The “Shawinigan Fox” 🦊 still has it. Great to hear from PM Jean Chrétien and
@FP_Champagne
from a packed house tonight at
@liberal_party
convention
#Lib2023
A big thank you goes out to
@liberal_party
President,
@suzcowan
, for joining Team Blois on the doorsteps today. We chatted with folks in Windsor about how our plan for health care, housing and child care will keep Canada moving forward post-pandemic.
#ForwardForEveryone
Congratulations to my friend and colleague,
@SeanFraserMP
, on being named Minister responsible for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. I know Sean will be a strong voice in cabinet for Nova Scotia and for all Canadians.
I joined
@AnitaAnandMP
to thank members of HMCS Halifax & their families as they deploy to Europe. 🇨🇦 is always proud of our
@CanadianForces
members who protect our freedoms but at times like this we are reminded of the sacrifices service members & their families make for us all.
I’m honoured to serve as Chair of the House of Commons Committee on Agriculture &
#Agri
-Food.
I look forward to working with my colleagues, including Vice-Chair
@JohnBarlowMP
, on the committee to study ways we can support
#CdnAg
, including in my own backyard of
#KingsHants
. 🇨🇦
Kings-Hants has so many advocates who have fought for a National Food School Program. Let’s ensure kids have access to affordable, healthy, & locally sourced food. It’s a win for kids, families, and can be a catalyst for our 🇨🇦 farmers. Glad to see it announced today.
Images like these are devastating and show how significant the damage in NS is. Officials are asking residents to stay home if possible, please follow their direction. I have spoken to
@JohnLohrPC
and
@BillBlair
the Government of Canada is ready to assist when called upon.
I’m pleased to share I‘ve been named Chair of Atlantic Caucus. Today was the first mtg since I assumed the role from
@mikekelloway
& I’d like to thank him for representing us since March. I’m looking forward to being the voice of Atlantic MPs as we outline priorities for
#parl44
.
This morning I had the pleasure of meeting with Hon. Anne McLellan. Originally from the Noel Shore, she has served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Justice & Attorney General.
Very pleased to see Minister
@jyduclos
announce today that ground beef will be exempt from new regulations on front of package labelling. I am pleased that our advocacy inside caucus on behalf of the
@CdnCattlemen
was heard and led to a positive outcome for those impacted.
Last night after Parliament, I crossed to Gatineau to catch one of Riley Kidney’s games. Riley is from Enfield, N.S. and I had the pleasure of coaching him w/ East Hants Minor hockey. He was recently drafted by the
@CanadiensMTL
Nice to see you, Riley, keep making us proud!
Today, I'm launching a petition to encourage the Houston Government to stop its proposed Commercial Wine Sector Policy that undermines local farmers and wine manufacturers. Let's encourage Premier Houston to put Nova Scotia First. 🍇

I welcome the approval of the Bay Du Nord project in NL. This is one of the lowest emitting O/G projects in the world, went through a comprehensive regulatory process, fits within with the recent ERP, & allows 🇨🇦 to provide O/G at an emissions intensity far below the 🌎 average.
Halifax is buzzing! Tonight Canada 🇨🇦 takes on Czech Republic 🇨🇿 for the Gold Medal 🥇at the
@WorldJuniors
The tournament has been a great showcase of maritime hospitality and the hockey has been fantastic. Thanks to all those involved in making this event a tremendous success!
Good afternoon from Regina! This week I’m in Saskatchewan to see agriculture producers in Regina and Saskatoon. As Chair of the
#Agri
committee, I’m looking forward to learning more about the sector and the important work farmers in the prairies do to feed our families.
Today I walked in the first ever Hants County Pride Parade 🏳️🌈 in Windsor. It’s important that these events take place in rural communities and not just major cities to show members of the local 2SLGBTQ+ community we stand in solidarity with them. What a great turnout!
Today I wrote to
@AllanMacMaster
calling on the Government of Nova Scotia to rebate proceeds from the Motive Fuel Tax to help support vulnerable Nova Scotians. See my letter below 👇
Great conversation this morning with
@Dr_Keefer
of
@CanadiansEnergy
and colleague
@viraniarif
on the opportunities and importance of nuclear energy in achieving our net-zero emission target by 2050. It will also play an role in supporting economic growth in a low-carbon economy.
Very pleased to see the
@SenateCA
reject amendments from AGFO on Bill C-234 therefore maintaining the text of the Bill that was passed by the House of Commons. This matters to farm families across 🇨🇦 and now it’s important for the Bill to pass the Senate at 3r this week.
@CFAFCA
Today
@CPC_HQ
voted against Bill C-49 and the interests of Atlantic Canada 🇨🇦 The Bill is supported by

Premiers

industry, & stakeholders across the region. We’ll keep focused on creating economic opportunities and good jobs for our region.

Like many of my colleagues, I have been banned from entering Russia. I will proudly wear this as a badge of honour and will continue speaking the truth of Russia’s atrocities.
It's always nice to see our local athletes succeed on the international stage. Today, I recognized Wolfville’s Avi Adam and Upper Tantallon resident, Lucy Phillips, on their U-18 Women’s World Hockey Championship Gold Medal with Team Canada 🇨🇦 Way to go, Avi and Lucy!
Last night I wrote
@TimHoustonNS
to express my deep concern on the proposed Commercial Wine Sector Program, which would change a longstanding policy focus on the growth of the Nova Scotia grape & wine sector. Our priority should be on supporting local here at home. See below 👇
This week is the
@liberal_party
policy convention. I’m excited my resolution, Canada as an Agricultural and

Congratulations to
@mattearoach
on a helluva run on
@Jeopardy
thanks for making all of 🇨🇦 proud, particularly us in your home province of Nova Scotia. Ps. If you’re looking for that first house, lots of great spots in Kings-Hants 😊
It is truly breathtaking, in the most concerning way, that
@Lianne_Rood
is suggesting the Government should simply acquiesce & drop all COVID protocols to appease & end what is a coordinated blockade of critical infrastructure. Instead, she should be promoting the rule of law.
So proud of
@NSCurl
lead by Sophie Blades on winning the
@2023CanadaGames
Gold Medal 🥇 in Women’s Curling! A great tournament capped off with a 9-5W over Alberta. This coupled with a playoff win for Team Black at
@CurlingCanada
Scotties & it’s a good night for NS Women’s curling
It’s

is the agricultural heartland of Atlantic 🇨🇦 & I’m proud to represent this riding. To all those in the industry, thanks for all the work you do.
These projects will help reduce our province’s reliance on coal, and partner with indigenous communities to create good jobs and benefit in rural Nova Scotia.
What an incredible four days in Saskatchewan. I was lucky to meet w/ farmers, processors, academics & those driving food production & innovation in a global context. Simply put, SK is a leader on food. I look forward to taking what I have learned & bringing it back to Parliament.
It was a beautiful day to get outside for a good walk and some fresh air. From Kim, Sulley, and I wishing you and your loved ones a happy and prosperous 2023!
Very disappointed to see the Conservative Party vote against an enhanced trade deal between Canada 🇨🇦 & Ukraine 🇺🇦.
In a moment where we should all be supporting 🇺🇦 in a straight forward deal that benefits both countries the Conservatives show that they don’t stand with Ukraine.
What an incredible
@IIHFHockey
WJC! The hockey talent and hospitality on display in Halifax and Moncton was amazing. Congratulations to
@HockeyCanada
and
@narodnitym
on a thrilling final and strong tournament. 20 years ago 🇨🇦 came so close to winning in HFX. Mission Accomplished!
Today our gov announced Nova Scotia will cut child care fees by 25%, saving families an average of $200 a month per child, as part of our plan to get to $10-a-day child care by 2026. There will also be 1,500 new spaces added this fall.

April 6th is Tartan Day, a recognition of the deep connections and contributions of Scottish 🏴 culture here in Canada 🇨🇦.
Kim and I are both proud to have Scottish heritage, as I know many in Nova Scotia and across Canada are as well. Happy Tartan Day!
From my family to you and your loved ones, wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving weekend! I’m very thankful to have a few days to spend with Kim and Sulley before parliament returns.
Wonderful to spend the morning with my friend and colleague

Today is Canada’s Agriculture Day! 🇨🇦
A celebration of our farmers, ranchers, agri-food businesses, and all those who help contribute to making Canada a powerhouse on the global stage. It was great to see my friends from Saskatchewan
@rgstone1
and
@BrettHalstead

Today I was in Ottawa as Ukraine’s President
@ZelenskyyUa
delivered a powerful address to Parliament. The world is inspired by his remarkable leadership, and that of all Ukrainians, who are not only fighting for their freedom but for our collective democratic values.
Today I dropped by
@SHBPrincipal
to have a pint of their Vice-Principal IPA to celebrate
@cafreeland
announcement of a 2-yr 2% cap on excise and cutting of the excise by half for the first 15,000 hl an initiative that will make a difference for craft brewers across KH & 🇨🇦 🍻
After a busy week it’s nice to be back home for a couple of days. Our family has a

Today, As Chair of the
@liberal_party
Rural Caucus, I hosted the first meeting of the 44th Parliament with our rural MPs to highlight key issues that matter & resonate in rural & regional Canada. Our team is excited to get to work helping shape & support the government’s agenda.
Great conversation tonight with
@Gudie
- 🇨🇦’s newly named Minister of Rural Economic Development. She is a tremendous champion for rural Canada and I know her experience and voice will be an important asset to our cabinet in the days ahead.
What a special night. I got into politics to be a part of work that makes a difference in people’s lives. That’s what tonight was all about when we welcomed over 300 Ukrainians to Canada through the
@HfxStanfield
Airport. Welcome to Canada, we are so happy to have you! 🇨🇦🇺🇦
Thanks to the Holiday Helpers distributing rapid tests to travellers at
@HfxStanfield

@HFX_Lauren
With the return of Parliament & travelling back & forth to Ottawa, rapid tests have become part of the routine. So far, our gov has distributed nearly 86M rapid tests across 🇨🇦.
Awesome morning in Calgary with my

Today PEI Potato Farmers were on Parliament Hill to show their support for the work to resolve the export ban of PEI table potatoes. Parliamentarians & Canadians stand with Islanders & 🇨🇦’s potato farmers. It was great to see Premier

has over 300 growers, with 15,000 acres of production, representing 4,000 full and part-time jobs, many of which are located in rural NS. If you’re able to, buy local and support our NS producers!
Today is
#InternationalWomansDay
& I want to recognize my amazing female colleagues I work alongside everyday. I’ve welcomed Anita, Chrystia, Gudie, and Marie-Claude to KH this past year. I am proud of their work & all the leadership our female MPs bring to public service in 🇨🇦
Truly disgusting to see the threats & insults
@cafreeland
received yesterday. Democracy is built on competing ideas. Disagreement exists within parties & between parties, but as Canadians we must disagree without being disrespectful, while collectively calling out this behaviour.
The wine sector in 🇨🇦 is so important in rural communities & creates benefit across the country. It was great to see
@mclaudebibeau
announce $166M to support wineries, it will make a big difference for wineries in NS, many of which are in Kings-Hants
@winegrowersns
@WineGrowersCA
Kim and I are spending some time in beautiful Newfoundland, and tonight I had the chance to catch up with my wonderful colleague

My father was a truck driver too…
Today I had the opportunity to speak in the House about my thoughts on the protest in Ottawa.

What a treat it was this week to see our good friend
@RodgerCuzner
in Ottawa. Rodger served as a MP in Cape Breton for 19 years & currently serves as the Consul General for 🇨🇦 in Boston. He’s one of the most down to earth and funniest person you’ll meet. Good to see you Rodger!
