Protecting our kids against abuse & exploitation is an issue all parties can get behind. I’m seeing some colleagues demanding we take action before the holidays. Thankfully, I’ve confirmed repeatedly for the past several months that they can expect a Bill before Christmas.

The Conservatives are currently obstructing the Justice Committee to prevent it from advancing laws to address hate crimes in this country. We need to take action to combat hate. It is disappointing, but not surprising, to see them turn this important Bill into a partisan game.

“This bill must benefit from cross-party consensus.” We’re asking for all parties to collaborate to get Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, through the committee process, and let the House vote. Canadians are asking for this. Let’s work together and get it done.

Heureusement, j’ai confirmé à plusieurs reprises au cours des derniers mois qu’ils devraient s’attendre à voir un projet de loi avant Noël. J’ai hâte de les voir appuyer ce travail important !

Protéger nos enfants contre les abus et l’exploitation est un enjeu sur lequel tous les partis peuvent s’entendre. Je constate que certains de nos collègues demandent que nous agissions avant les fêtes.

Democracy isn’t strengthened by shouting louder than your political opponent. It’s strengthened by the people who are willing to listen, even when it’s hard, and by citizens who remember that those who hold a different point of view are our friends and neighbours-not our enemies.

That conversation matters. Not because we reached the same conclusions, but because we treated each other with respect while articulating our perspectives.
