Protecting our kids against abuse & exploitation is an issue all parties can get behind. I’m seeing some colleagues demanding we take action before the holidays. Thankfully, I’ve confirmed repeatedly for the past several months that they can expect a Bill before Christmas.

I sincerely hope he stops wasting Canadians’ time and taxpayer dollars and gets back to working on the legislation he has a responsibility to address at today’s meeting.

The Conservatives are upset for being called out on delaying criminal law reforms before the Justice committee. Among the “important points” that Conservative MP Andrew Lawton needed to share was that he likes puppies and thinks they’re cute, though his wife prefers cats.

After speaking for 107 minutes straight, not allowing anyone else to speak, preventing the committee from advancing our hate crime and bail reform bills, Andrew Lawton claims Conservatives are not obstructing the Justice Committee from doing its work. Canadians want serious

For everyone anxious to see progress on fighting hate in our communities and crime across the country, this type of delay is unacceptable: Conservative Andrew Lawton is filibustering the Justice Committee and demanding weeks of delay to our C-9 hate crime bill. No one should

The Conservatives are currently obstructing the Justice Committee to prevent it from advancing laws to address hate crimes in this country. We need to take action to combat hate. It is disappointing, but not surprising, to see them turn this important Bill into a partisan game.

“This bill must benefit from cross-party consensus.” We’re asking for all parties to collaborate to get Bill C-9, the Combatting Hate Act, through the committee process, and let the House vote. Canadians are asking for this. Let’s work together and get it done.
Bill C-9’s introduction in September recognized the urgency of addressing rising threats to Jewish Canadians and other vulnerable communities. Today, our CEO @nshack urged all Party Leaders to work together on targeted amendments that strengthen cross-party consensus and

Democracy isn’t strengthened by shouting louder than your political opponent. It’s strengthened by the people who are willing to listen, even when it’s hard, and by citizens who remember that those who hold a different point of view are our friends and neighbours-not our enemies.

That conversation matters. Not because we reached the same conclusions, but because we treated each other with respect while articulating our perspectives.
