#ChatGPT5 is a letdown, not because it's not AGI, but because it's slow and then shy about discussing molecular biology "for safety reasons" Just canceled; Gemini's looking better.

Congratulations to everyone at Setpoint Medical, present and past, who worked for 18 years to bring a brand new idea for the first time into a clinical reality. This begins a new era for millions of patients needing new options.

Reducing animal use is a worthy goal but mechanistic discovery, the engine of biomedical progress, still requires animal models. Translation is vital and challenging and could be improved with these initiatives. Just don’t conflate the two.

While I’m a big fan of new technologies that help us study human biology…there’s still no replacement for animal research! I wrote an article outlining this in @GENbio .

Tbh, i’ve been wary of scale-free avalanches etc bc 1/f noise often felt like self-organization trivia with no link to computation or behavior. This article starts to close the gap, casting criticality as a homeostatic target for dynamics. Convincing, must read & discuss!.

Is criticality the common set-point of brain function? Must read Viewpoint by @KeithHengen & Woodrow Shew in @NeuronCellPress marshals a meta-analysis &.evidence that our brains aim for the brink of phase transition ā€œcriticalityā€ as a built-in set-point for flexible computation.

Why does CAR T-cell therapy cause "brain fog"? .In a landmark study @michelle_monje et al. show white-matter inflammation drives cognitive deficits. Blocking these, either resetting microglia or dialing back their chemokine response restored myelin & rescued attention+memory!.

CAR T cell therapy can be life-saving, but like many other cancer therapies, can cause long-term ā€œbrain fogā€. We discovered the cellular dysregulation underpinning this and a strategy to rescue the cellular and cognitive dysfunction in mice.

Controversial opinion. but organoids are not brains and if you want to understand cognition, you can’t study it in a dish.
