It is a FACT that the ‘69 disturbances in Belfast were kicked off by nationalists to divert RUC resources from L’derry. I can tell you from 1st hand experience many (not all) residents in Bombay St set light to their own houses to stop Prods moving in. As did Prods in Cupar St.

It doesn’t bother me in the slightest that the GAA is a nationalist organisation. It’s for members to determine objectives, rules and constitution. What irritates is the notion that it is inclusive and welcoming to unionists, maybe on the surface, but just scratch a little bit.

In 1968, 20% of Northern Ireland Protestants saw themselves as Irish. That could have been built on but by 2001, after years of mindless IRA violence, that had fallen to 2%. That's all the IRA "achieved" - the complete alienation of Ulster Protestants from any sense of Irishness.

I’m always suspicious of polls but if the 80% support for Higgins is near correct it’s an awful indictment of our southern neighbours.

The Higgins debacle is shining a light on nationalism’s sectarianism problem - and it’s worse than we might like to think. Apparently nationalist sectarianism is OK because we deserve it ... Hardline unionism has it too of course. Important to slap it down wherever it appears.
