I’m glad @BelTel are reporting on yesterday’s gridlock. Thousands of cars had hours added to their journeys - all avoidable - and no-one in authority seems to care. Some pics below we took while walking (including an edit saved by my eldests which I can’t remove 😂)

The good news is that the WC Facilities at Cavehill Adventurous Playground are now open Saturdays & Sundays! . I know it’s not everyday, but it’s a start. Visited today and the place was jammed. Great to see! 👏

Nearly a year since I sent this & nothing has changed. Traffic gridlock across N Belfast today, Duncrue St closed, M3 closed and not a traffic warden or traffic police to be seen. @deptinfra blamed commuters & ‘Christmas’ last year. It’s still the summer holidays. 🤦🏻‍♂️.

Amid all the fanfare this week on pubic transport, worth remembering that Belfast is one the most congested cities in UK or Ireland & there’s very little in the draft PFG to tackle it. Say hello to the next decade:

A trip back in time today as we saw the Floral Hall as its restoration begins. Following the removal of asbestos, the next steps will see structural engineers assess the roof. Here’s some shots of this heritage icon right here in North Belfast….more to follow…👏

Elsehwere in Sunningdale, the original signpost has lost a R - have asked that this be replaced as soon as possible. Heritage in N Belfast needs preserved & protected. 🏛️. If you see any other damaged signs, please contact me. Details above. 📞📲

This will be repaired like others which have been damaged. I have spoken to PSNI & Parades Commission to make sure any future parade applications are properly considered. Unwanted parades, vandalising signs and attempts to erase minority rights are a thing of the past.

Residents of Sunningdale Pk Nth were taken by surprise by parade on 11th July this year. This was nodded through by PSNI & Parades Commission when it should not have been. I also spoke to residents today on the issue who have also seen their street signs vandalised this am.

When the proposal for drugs consumption rooms was mooted, I was dubious. It felt like too little too late and showed the failure of Depts Health & Justice to tackle the issue meaningfully. It's not a replacement for proper support services, but one is now needed in Belfast.

The Lodge's statement worth a read for its cynicism. Accuses the GAA - whose founders include an RIC Inspector - of failing to show respect for all traditions - when the truth is for centuries now the Order has been among the island's leading sectarian organisations. Awful.

A5 judgement will have an impact on at least two other DFI initiatives which impact Belfast & North Belfast - the new plans for York Street Interchange & the draft DFI Eastern Transport Plan 2023 which we're told is at an advanced stage.

Sadly not surprised by this, the ‘pretend it doesn’t exist’ NI Exec approach to the 2022 Climate Change Act now scuppers plans for the new A5. Planning reform, water infrastructure, flags, A5, pedestrianisation, traffic congestion, can @deptinfra get anything right?.

The reach & impact of Stormont’s climate change legislation is now clear. Certainly it will have implications for how other infrastructure projects are approached.

Good news for Derry and the North West. Belfast, which previously had flight connections to Galway, Shannon, Cork and (briefly) Dublin, today has no domestic flight connections anywhere in Ireland. Dublin, Derry, Kerry, Donegal and now Derry all do.

A constructive meeting today to progress the establishment of air connectivity between Dublin and Derry City airports. Once the preparatory work is completed, I expect services will commence later in 2026 following a procurement process.
