Anyone can be a victim of domestic or sexual violence and abuse, irrespective of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or background. Men often not only find it harder to come forward, due to stigma, but to be taken seriously and access the support services they need.
.@Justice_NI Minister @naomi_long & @healthdpt Minister Mike Nesbitt met with @CVOCNI Geraldine Hanna on Supporting Male Victims of Domestic Abuse Day to discuss the services required by male victims of domestic & sexual abuse.

I would based on the dedicated, professional officers I engage with regularly. That you, as a former officer, wouldn't is profoundly insulting to your former colleagues. I hope the "rank & file" see it for what it is: derogatory, dangerous, self-promoting nonsense.
@naomi_long @MartinG1492 @_HGW_XX7_ @BeattieDoug @PoliceServiceNI Would you trust them with such discretion with racially motivated offences & domestic violence offences or would you exclude those from being dealt with by tickets? It’s sad you stoop to personal attacks - I’m very comfortable with my relationship with the rank & file Minister.

90yr gap between volunteers at today’s South Belfast outreach! Good to get residents opinions on a planning application & for baby Dara to meet the legend that is Margaret - @allianceparty was built by people like her who have dedicated so many yrs to creating a shared future 💛

The proposal was from a @PoliceServiceNI so low-level offending that would result in a court fine could be sped up via a police fine. At the other end of the scale, we're increasing penalties for serious attacks on Police, making it an aggravator. It widens options. #wholetruth
This is a staggering figure. Yet we have proposals to make assaults on police a simple penalty notice. @Jusice_NI are not serious about justice.

This abuse directed at @little_pengelly is as vile as it is inexcusable. Those posting it should not just be ashamed of their conduct: they should be held accountable for it. It's malicious, hate-fuelled, toxic bile.
Some 😡 comments under my facebook posts this week 😑👇 In my role as your deputy First Minister I face big and often tricky political issues, big challenges and the task of delivery in Government. I don't bring too much of that on to Facebook and social media. On my social

With sectarian vetoes being thrown around the Executive like confetti, dysfunction and chaos was sure to follow, says @EoinTennyson, in the wake of the Covid Inquiry findings. These vetoes should not exist and Alliance is taking action to bring forward the reform that's needed.

Of course we did, it's an important issue and one that has the opportunity to transform our spaces which I don't doubt you'd agree. But the DOJ also can't do it without the consent of the Council, therefore not without Councillors agreeing. We hope you can get behind it.
Great idea - but according to a UU/CAIN report the owner of this peace wall is the NI Department of Justice. Did you ask the department or the Minister about it? 🤦🏻

The SDLP blocked reform while in government and during negotiations. 🙄 @allianceparty has never been in favour of destabilising the institutions or playing ransom politics. People voted for us to try to make the institutions work, not to throw our toys out of the pram. 🤷🏻♀️
I agree the SoS (and Irish Government) need to engage and SDLP has said so to both. But the Alliance Party needs to account for why it did nothing to make reform a condition of being in Government after winning a huge mandate in 2022. It isn't even mentioned in the PfG.

It’s a real privilege to be at the 2025 #DisabledPeoplesParliament in Stormont today. It’s important that we hear from experts in disability and that’s people with lived experience to ensure that deaf and disabled people are fully involved in decisions that affect them.

As leader of the Alliance Party, I have written to the SoS outlining the case for urgent reform of Stormont’s power-sharing institutions in the wake of the Covid Inquiry findings. “The institutions must be reformed to stop any single party from paralysing decision-making.”

Proud to sign @JoaniReid cross-party letter from MPs demanding that Ofcom investigate a surge in violent antisemitism on twitter, particularly in the wake of the appalling Heaton Park Synagogue attack. It's clear that all types of hate online are going not just unchecked, but are

Delighted to secure €6.4m of Shared Island funding for a cross-border pilot to tackle Bovine TB. The disease is devastating for farms across the Island of Ireland, a coordinated approach is essential to driving down infection and stopping its spread.

Ah, come on now, @SaraONeillArt. You can criticise Trevor all you like, but as a millinery designer, he's got flair. That hat he gave me really complements my look of utter incredulity that a grown adult posted this...

"Double, Double toil and trouble; fire burn and cauldron bubble"...Already on the curriculum thanks to Shakespeare 🤷🏻♀️🧙🏻♀️🤣 The DUP need to catch themselves on. This reeks of desperation. Or, as the Bard himself would say: "This is the silliest stuff that ever I heard." 🙄

This #InternationalMensDay, I want to highlight the stigma and barriers regularly faced by male victims of domestic violence and abuse, and how we tackle this scourge. No one should suffer in silence, and all victims deserve access to all the support they need. #IMD25
