The title of peacebuilder has been co-opted by some questionable people, but Alan McBride is a genuinely inspiring peacebuilder in the best sense. He has responded to the most brutal injustice and pain by helping others. I hope he enjoys a happy, peaceful retirement.
‘I’ve done my bit for peace, now it’s time to help myself heal.’. Victims campaigner and peacebuilder Alan McBride has retired from the Wave Trauma Centre he joined soon after losing his wife Sharon in the 1993 Shankill bombing.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Martin Smyth, who was MP for South Belfast for more than two decades. Though from an entirely different political tradition, he clearly believed in public service. Condolences to his family and friends.

Minister Muir is right: SF and the DUP have cynically blocked necessary action on Lough Neagh. But it begs the question: why Alliance ministers did not demand clear guarantees on policy, especially the environment and Stormont reform, as a condition of entering the Executive?.
Andrew Muir has urged his Executive colleagues to back him in making some "very big decisions" to tackle the blue-green algae issue at Lough Neagh.
