For the last few days the government has been accused of wanting dilute the national inquiry into grooming gangs by widening the scope, but the objection apparently disappears when wider "group-based sexual exploitation" provides a more sensational overall figure.

Express splash on "Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley has told Mayor of London Sadiq Khan that his force will need to reassess 9,000 potential grooming gang cases" in fact refers a broad range of potential "group-based sexual exploitation". https://t.co/Ffh7zYKg6a

Forgive me for saying this was a fun one to do, but the guests were so animated and engaged that I found it fascinating just listening to them.

💥Hungary's Orbán gov't-controlled media outlets are flooded with AI-generated propaganda—this time showing Zelensky “dreaming of missiles,” mocking his Tomahawk request. The images depicting him as a child are especially vile after a Russian strike hit a kindergarten in Kharkiv.

Bizarre, I was led to believe this was all proof Keir Starmer was a Chinese agent of influence, something must be wrong somewhere
NEW: China spy update NSA Jonathan Powell and DNSA Matt Collins write in a letter to the Joint Committee on National Security Strategy: — Collins was bound by the CPS not to share his witness statement post-charge. They say as a result no Labour minister or special adviser

She was elected to the House a month ago. But Mike Johnson has refused to swear her in, knowing it would narrow his small majority and provide the final signature needed to force a vote on an Epstein papers resolution. Now she's suing. @meganmineiro

Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva, Democrat of Arizona, along with the state’s attorney general, argued that the speaker had no authority to delay swearing her into office.

Okay we’ve announced it. We’re building a city. The first major city in the UK for fifty years. And we want the Labour government to back it. We’ve already got amazing prominent supporters. But we need everyone to sign the pledge first to prove real demand. Sign it and read more

Sad to learn that Michael Smuss has died, last survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. He devoted his life to Holocaust education. I will never forget Zikaron BaSalon with him. Only last month I was honoured to present him with the Federal Cross of Merit. יהיה זכרו ברוך.

I co-authored our piece this week on the quiet rise and rise of guest worker-style migration in the rich world, and why it's thriving even in places where anti-migration politicians are ascendant or in charge already, and the enormous opportunities to getting it right.

So much angsty equivocation on responding to this from some Labour strategists and yet when you actually ask the prime minister about what he thinks on this issue, he's absolutely crystal clear. Might make you think no one ever asked him what the Labour response should be
PM: "I can't tell you how much I disagree with her." Sir Keir Starmer hits back at @Katie_Lam_MP's suggestion that "multiculturalism has not succeeded in this country". The Weald of Kent MP made the comments this week on @itvpeston. @itvmeridian

Absolute vacuous blather, which takes no account of the actual incentives acting on Russia. "the Budapest summit could offer an important opportunity for the logic of war to be gradually replaced by the will for a political settlement, and for dialogue between the parties to take

Interview with an Orban adviser on Russia-Ukraine. Reading this, you'd never know that Ukraine has accepted a ceasefire & that Russia has turned it down. That leads to the persuasive-sounding but hollow view that the answer is just neutral "mediation". https://t.co/9nXCumUJ0E

From today’s Russian papers: “There isn’t a single reason Moscow should agree to a ceasefire [in Ukraine].” Same paper accuses Trump of “intellectual laziness.” Another: “Everything we’ve seen suggests [Trump] is not ready to take tough measures against Russia.” #ReadingRussia

Delighted by this. Appalling idea. La Liga calling this a blow to the "international profile of the entire football ecosystem" — illustrating that it, like the Premier League when it tried to take games overseas in 2008, is totally detached from reality https://t.co/UxeS7gS0LW
