Separately, the PSNI and neighbourhoods need the right resources to tackle hate and build stronger communities. Police funding is at crisis point. Good Relations funding has faced a decade of cut backs. The Justice Minister refuses to bring a Hate Crime Bill forward. Why?.

Ethnic minority residents, and indeed all Belfast residents, need to see police action to secure our neighbourhoods, and to take those who would perpetrate a lynching off the streets. The comparison between the policing of overt racism, and protests against genocide is stark.

Earlier this week I called for a special meeting of the East Belfast Policing and Community Safety Partnership to discuss the ongoing vigilantism. That meeting will take place tomorrow. It’s important we get answers from the PSNI about their plans to tackle this lawlessness.
