The enormous pressure on heads, particularly post Covid is having the same impact as teaching as a whole: recruitment and retention crisis.
⚠️ Most headteachers would not recommend the job, while fewer assistant and deputy heads want the top post, shows a new survey from the leaders’ union @NAHTnews

I’m expecting schools to be putting in Prevent referrals for any of their children on these “protests”. Not showing British Values. I expect parents to be contacted by social services teams. But that’s not what will happen.

My definition of a great teacher? Stop this endless expectation of ‘better’. A great teacher works well enough to ensure students in each class they teach learn well over time. That each individual they teach feels valued. That each colleague they have is glad they work with them

The SEND system is buckling on every level. It takes far too long to get an initial assessment. The number of pupils with EHCPs has risen and funding hasn't kept pace. It all causes distress to children, families and school staff, and they deserve better. https://t.co/p3koblN5vA

@RogersHistory The pain and anguish Ruth Perry went through between the inspection in November and her death in January is immeasurable and simply too distressing to contemplate. RIP Ruth, your legacy and mame will never be forgotten.

This is such sad news. What an inspiring person you were. RIP.
Hugely sad to hear my friend Ben Zephaniah has died. He was a pioneer who inspired so many through the immense power of his poetry and prose. His humour, inflection and charm was legendary. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Rest in Power.

I am devastated Ben was my friend. He would pop in to see me in the office whenever visiting his mom in recent years. What he means to Birmingham knows no bounds. We loved him and he loved us.
