I'm really sorry but whatever anyone thinks a child can learn in 2 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks etc - it's completely irrelevant when positioned against the loss of just one teacher to COVID19 in that time period. Or to lasting complications due to contracting COVID19. That's it.

In a world where hybrid/flexi working is becoming common, teachers still have to fight to leave school during free periods or are made to feel guilty for asking for even a few hours off for any reason whatsoever. Huge culture/mindset shift still needed.

I want to pay tribute to the teacher who sat 1-1 with a student after school or in frees of their own accord, without being “seen” or wanting to be. Some kids will say “Mr/Mrs X really helped me”. This won’t appear in the headlines, No one will ever know. But it’s teaching gold.

Going back on meds. Really don’t want to, 2 years not, but need to. Also started counselling last week. Totally get advice of leaving twitter but it does help me to interact etc + feel I can make a difference. Anyway, that’s what I’m doing to try (again) to get better. 👍

Having mental health problems and teaching - hardest job. You have to put the face on, you can’t hide at a desk or “pop out” or work from home. Kids will see straight away if you aren’t right so you either act or else. Overcoming that, over a long period, is strength.
