The real issue imho is they undid server side rendering and you have to download tons of code just to see a single tweet. Other countries are slow because of the round trips and initial download and not so much from the backend since everyone shares that.
@DanMulroyjr
i think it should be taught but not as a math class, instead there needs to be a "how to live" class that includes understanding basic statistics you encounter in the news, budgeting, loans, taxes, etc.

Reply to your own messages for threads so people have the context. For those that didn't go to his profile, he is talking about Reservoir Dogs.
I built an iOS app that let's you search the photos on your iPhone, iPad or Mac faster and much better with natural language than Google Photos. It also is completely local to your phone. No upload. Is that interesting or is searching too rare?

In 1995 my gf (12 yrs older) was making 35k consulting and I got a job making 30k consulting as a software engineer. I was annoyed about it and she said I had to pay my dues. A year later I was making 75k.
@AdamSinger
If they admit the same number of people every year while the population is increasing wouldn't you expect that those people are better and better every year? Not sure if it fully explains the graph but the hypothesis should be tested.
I once got the opportunity to ask Gordon Moore a question, “what is the equivalent of Moore’s Law for software?” His response, “number of bugs doubles every year”. Great man.
2nd training run crashed with same MES error, beta driver piece didn't work, and found what I'm 95% sure is a compiler bug.
At it stands, I'm not okay with shipping the 7900XTX platform. What should we do?
I just found out my good friend was killed last night while walking him in San Francisco
He was in the “good” part of the city and appeared to have been targeted in a random mugging/attack
Fuck San Francisco
Hot take:
C# exists because of a lawsuit.
Go exists because of a lawsuit.
Both of them are just variations on Java.
Rust exists for a reason.
JavaScript exists for a reason.
Python exists for a bad reason.
The software industry is rapidly converging on just three languages: Go, Rust, and JS.
It would be smart to learn one of those really well, and have at least a working acquaintance with the other two.
If you ever wonder if we live in a bubble, we had a close friend of ours over tonight. She is a world-renowned dermatologist who lives down the street in Cupertino. This evening we told her all about
@elonmusk
. She had never heard of him.

it doesn't matter if you can't do another shot. you need a couple hundred consistent scenes to make a movie. hell, commercials are 50 shots in a minute.

GPT-4 has a few more that are all pretty good:
1. Energy is conserved; mass and energy are interchangeable.
2. Atoms are the building blocks of matter, each containing a nucleus of protons and neutrons, surrounded by electrons.
3. Evolution occurs through natural selection,
it really is an unending cycle of people discovering they can build the whole app in frontend javascript and then finally realizing everything is faster if they do it on the server. if your project is more site than app, you should look at it.
@ramit
Primary home isn't really an investment unless you are planning on moving somewhere a lot cheaper later. No matter what the advantage of renting might be I have found that you can't rent the same kinds of properties you can buy.
Was meeting with a computer legend the other day and he was drawing a diagram on the board where he used $ to represent the cache. I can't believe this is the first time I have seen this shorthand.
@rmcentush
It is a coincidence. No other planet & moon have this relationship in our solar system. Quite an extraordinary one if you ask me. Perhaps solar eclipses helped us think about more than just getting our next meal.
@zebulgar
ITAR specifies a "US Person" which includes US citizens and a few other types including "protected individuals" which if you follow the links you eventually find:
My oldest daughter goes to college tomorrow and we had a farewell dinner tonight. Her younger sister presented her with a hat in the schools colors she knitted in secret. So sweet.
So the biggest issue is that it can only index a few photos per second so the initial on boarding is kind of painful. I worry folks make it through it. After that though not a bug deal.
@AdamNeumannsCoS
You aren’t moving it then, it is copying. Finder/Explorer both default to move on the same device and copy for different devices unless you hold a modifier key while dragging.
Is any PE firm executing a strategy to acquire older companies with amazing data but poor technology to supercharge them with AI? Seems like an opportunity.

Why would you compare average rent for a 1-bedroom with the poverty line? Should probably look at something like 25th percentile rent for a room in a house. Median 1-bedroom rent should be compared with median single income (>40k) at worst.
Spent a couple days making a Slack bot (using GPT-3, lambda, dynamodb) that can take on different personas, including one that pretends to be me. However, it can be quite argumentative.
was showing my 11-yr old daughter, who is learning javascript, the speed of and she said that websites can't be that fast. i'm sad that the web has strayed so far.
@dieworkwear
When the people are evaporating this is easier. 0.8 fertility rate. Hundreds of schools closing per year. The only thing that keeps their housing market going is they won’t buy used houses.
Let me rewrite this for you: "I don't enjoy coding but I liked the high salary. I like solving problems with logic but not building software. Coding was a net negative on my health and soul. YMMV." Plenty of people enjoy coding.
LLMs have made everyone a script kiddie, massively compressing the distance between users and value. So many things that were hard are now easy or will be soon.

Oracle has no boolean type.
Oracle can't tell the difference between empty string and null.
Oracle DDL isn't transactional.
All things I discovered porting an application from PostgreSQL to Oracle for an enterprise customer back in the day. 🤮
I used CLIPSeg to analyze each part of a complicated Stable Diffusion prompt and show which pixels were most affected by which parts of the prompt. Now I kind of want this for every image generated:

I think instead we should declare it an utter failure and ignore it outside the JDK. It provides zero value to me as a user of libraries or a publisher of them. Deprecate it and remove it from the public API.
