Over my career we went from: Everything about VC totally opaque Red Herring type trade mags TechCrunch VCs like Feld, Hornik, Wilson Venture Hacks/AngelList YC (and TechStars etc) With YC as the final boss of defining the rules of the game, with many great and some bad results

This is a function of startup creation, especially the whole venture funding process, becoming demystified, systematized, and perceived as safer. The transparency is net good for the system, but has some big negative side effects going from outlier oddballs to high status track.
