France, who closed its borders to U.K. visitors earlier this month to protect against Omicron, now reporting Europe’s highest ever number of cases. Thank you
@EmmanuelMacron
for keeping us Brits safe from your “shocking” levels of infection rate …….🙄🙄🤷♂️
Well done BBC - for years you have been talking & producing content that you, not your audience want to see & listen - self destruction by any other name “Half of Britons feel the BBC does not share their values”
Seriously Piers? Lack of leadership..? Was that the same PM who warned repeatedly that Lockdown would be difficult to sustain, whilst you were raging that he should bring it in earlier than scientists recommmended? You make the laziest of arm chair critics look quite respectable
Kensington High Street buzzing with people & cars, and Holland Park packed with people sunbathing, having picnics & hanging with friends.
The lockdown's collapsing in the absence of leadership. Either Boris must take charge again asap - or he must pass power to someone else.
I have invited
@SadiqKhan
to come onto my program on
@talkRADIO
from 5-7pm to discuss his disgraceful record in London on knife crime and to discuss solutions - so far no answer
“To any of our colleagues — or former colleagues — tempted to put Jeremy Corbyn and his momentum mob into No 10 as part of some ‘temporary’ anti-Brexit coalition . . . I just say this, ‘History would never forgive you.’” Well said
@DominicRaab
In 2011 in HoC I made this point about Voter ID “In a sample of more than 80 immigration cases coming through my constituency, more than 15% of those involved were found to be on the electoral roll when they had no entitlement to be there” delighted Voter ID will be introduced
Extraordinary the number of people on Twitter who think they have more scientific knowledge on this pandemic the Chief Scientific Adviser and Chief Medical Officer - here’s their CV’s and
Listening to some media you would think
@borisjohnson
has committed a heinous crime letting us finally use our own judgement about masks. If you want to wear one go for it, if you don’t …go for it.
This just now ...”When do we finally leave the EU then ?”
Me: “27 days time “
Him:”Not bloody soon enough “
Me”But you voted remain!”
Him: “That’s before I realised what a bunch of uncompromising ba^*!$s they are”.. ( sorry I don’t do swearing on twitter 🙄 but you get the drift)
As
@DominicRaab
points out - Research conducted by Ipsos MORI on behalf of British Council finds the UK to be the most attractive country overall among young people in the G20" ....you wouldn't think so listening to some of our broadcast commentators or armchair twitter experts.
Welcome back Chancellor.
While you have been away in California this week, British businesses have been crying out for help.
Why were your meetings in the US more important to you than helping businesses and workers here at home?
I hope that you’re ready to support them now.
No we are not..Under Charles 1 Parliament stood up for the people against an autocratic monarch who ignored their wishes. This time we are seeing the Executive standing up for the people against a parliament frustrating the national referendum.
So
@Chase
I received this today from you today declining my application to open an account with you. Is it because
- I am former Cons MP?
- Because I campaigned for Brexit
- Because I host shows on
@TalkTV
Seems like my credit rating can’t get much higher so, so tell?
Ask yourself why would an EU Brexit negotiator be keen to sign U.K. up to a Customs Union? One Answer- because it would prevent having a much more competitive neighbour on their doorstep
Former EU Trade Commissioner and WTO DG Pascal Lamy (+ my former boss) rightly says a customs union after
#Brexit
won’t resolve the Irish border. But I’d add: it wld contribute 2 a solution + wld be major bonus for UK manufacturing - no rules of origin
Can cabinet please look at more than just the scientific data and the modelling on spread of Covid & Omicron? Have they modelled & will they see the impact of restrictions on wider health impacts, mental health, jobs, livelihoods, education? If so let’s share that data too.
Inheritance tax is a hideous tax & it should be abolished.
It’s double taxation based on your death,in fact we should be happy to cascade any wealth down to family or whom we choose.
Don’t bottle this
@RishiSunak
-your instincts are right
“Nissan bosses have declared that the impact of Brexit on its UK operations is now negligible and urged the country to be more optimistic about its prospects”
Who do you trust more ?
Armchair critics or those that work on the industrial front line ?
The report in Daily Mail that
@DominicRaab
doesn’t work his way though his ministerial box of papers and briefings is utter crap - I couldn’t keep up with the work pace he set
@DExEUgov
and I doubt that’s changed
@FCDOGovUK
Anyone remember when
@MichelBarnier
kept using this slide to propose U.K. accepted a Canada Trade Deal with the EU .... it suited EU commission back then, but no longer it seems... U.K. current negotiating stance is right
The French President has more influence over the length of our extension than the British Prime Minister.
Brexit is not taking back control, it's giving it away.
The lingering odour of hypocrisy that anyone, least of all Bercow, should claim they would form a government of “national unity” when the idea is to overturn the legitimate vote of 17.4 million people “Bercow proposed as PM of national unity”
Whilst fully respecting the role of the court and its decision, it is a bit galling to have opponents of Brexit touting this as a victory for democracy when their whole purpose has been to overturn Brexit referendum result , one of the largest democratic decisions ever.

This was self evident from the work I saw being done
@DExEU
by
@DominicRaab
and former minister
@chhcalling
and his predecessor
@SteveBakerHW
- surprising it took this long for government to acknowledge this.
BBC News: Brexit: UK in "pretty good shape" for no-deal says top civil servant BBC News - Brexit: UK in "pretty good shape" for no-deal says top civil servant
I am looking forward to you receiving the appropriate apologies and corrections from all those professional media and armchair twitter experts who were plain wrong yet rushed to judge you.
For the avoidance of doubt - this is a shameful tweet from
@conservatives
The editing of the original clip is deceitful and this tweet should be taken down
Hmmm…I can confirm not everyone is working from home..left Bishop’s Stortford at 5.45am …still not at Westminster …oh and thanks to
@MayorofLondon
for his”zero” strikes pledge failure and whacking me with congestion charge
America -The use of the term “hero” to describe that interview is absurd. We have seen real heroes in the last 12 months, whatever else they may be, the Duke & Duchess are not amongst them.
11 years of Conservative led government and now mid term elections delivering overwhelming swing to Conservatives. Ignore the excuses from Labour, basically they don’t understand the country they want to govern.

Understand Labour/SNP/LD MPs are going to try and block a Saturday sitting. Remember when these same MPs were parading around saying it was time to get back to work to solve Brexit...
I am trying really hard not to be a grumpy old sod but….
Why do some people think it’s OK to play a film/music on their phone without headphones on a train..?
I mean if we all did it, how would that end well …?
I saw
@DominicRaab
in action in the negotiating room with the EU and it’s clear that he is the one they know will fight hard for Britain’s interest. On 31 October he will leave on WTO terms if there is not a
#FairerBrexit
Just to clarify- media and political opponents are hammering the government because they didn’t join an EU procurement scheme for PPE, a scheme which has still failed to deliver any PPE to those countries that did sign up to the EU scheme- go figure.
I want the strongest possible negotiator opposite Michel Barnier. The EU said it themselves: Dominic Raab demanded things from them no one else dared ask for. He’s exactly who we need in No10
#ReadyforRaab
“Italy.. is to make coronavirus vaccine passports compulsory for all state & private employees,with unvaccinated people to be suspended without pay until they obtain one” Just think about this..I suspect far too many Britons would like this imposed here
Memo to anxious Conservative MPs…
Marginal ( seat) Agitation & Despair ( MAD) is a temporary condition dealt with by:
Holding your nerve
Lab policies will be found wanting under more scrutiny
A bad Cons Party Conference with anti-Truss briefings will not save your seat
Whatever you think about the potential for breach of international law
@NJ_Timothy
sets out brilliantly why we are where we are “The bad-faith EU is furious that the UK now has a backstop of its own”
What is it with this pile on with
@JohnnyMercerUK
?
I didn’t get a degree and managed to do all right - how dated to think degrees are the only way to high income and a rewarding job.
Plymouth Moor View predicted Labour win at GE 👏🏼
Gosh, what are arrogant Johnny Mercer
@JohnnyMercerUK
& his wife going to do for a joint income of £160,000+ plus enormous expenses?
Not a degree in sight in spite of expensive private education!
So who'd employ them?🤷🏼♀️
If you call for someone to resign from their government job because they “broke the COVID restriction rules” ( as this SNP MP did) then broke those rules yourself should you not follow you own advice regardless? Or do you just admit to double standards & political grandstanding ?
Before we get excited about the Whitehall GDP predictions of 0.5% less growth a year over a 15 year period, bear in mind there pre-referendum forecast was out by 2.7% for the last 18 months..remember "economic forecasters exist to make astrologists look respectable "
I don’t think
@SadiqKhan
likes the idea of being interviewed by me on
@talktv
- once again his office have declined on his behalf to discuss the level of crime and most recently increased crime levels on the tube
Why not
@MayorofLondon
?
I extend the invitation again !
Very much hoping we will see a return to cabinet for my former boss
@DominicRaab
who took a consistent & principled stand on Brexit during negotiations, culminating in his resignation from cabinet last November. He will be a huge asset to
@BorisJohnson
administration
“One of the reasons that Boris will win this contest is because he’s been very clear about having a plan and has the resolve to deliver it. That frees us to get on to all of those other optimistic things that we want to see done”
@DominicRaab
#BackBoris
Politicians are open to more public and media scrutiny now than at any other point in history - that they choose not to support Channel 4 says more about Channel 4 than it does about politicians.
It’s deeply depressing that so many politicians are either refusing to answer questions in interviews or avoiding interviews altogether. Surely an election campaign in a functioning democracy is about being prepared to be challenged on your policies so voters can decide?
#GE2019
Guilty or not, the hypocrisy of
@AngelaRayner
is what will mark this episode and the willingness of all the shadow cabinet to row in behind that hypocrisy
So Prof Calum Semple on Sage has just stated that regardless of what data shows about Omicron variant, keeping restrictions in place beyond the next 3 week review is necessary because of other winter respiratory conditions. And so it begins.
Leaking the probability of a national lockdown is wrong - causing so much uncertainty and speculation for millions without the full details. The PM should step up and hold a press conference today.
Tough day for
@MattHancock
who has to answer claims, not backed up by evidence as yet, in the HoC - one misstep, one inaccuracy could lead to resignation in contrast to 7 hours of testimony from Cummings for which he will not be held accountable should he have been inaccurate.
“Johnson told his guests( at G7 Conference) it was “genuinely wonderful to see everyone in person” following “the wretched pandemic.” Which is precisely why the events industry wants to get back to business as soon as possible
#eventprofs
EU governments have used only 48 million vaccine doses out of the 62.2 million delivered. Almost half the 14.8 million AZ doses produced for EU have not been used..yet they are threatening to block export vaccines to UK...do the maths
@vonderleyen
Thank you all for comments - police notified and have taken necessary steps - no one else at obvious threat from what I can tell and trusting police may be at next station if he has not got off in meantime.
And so ends a marvellous day watching my daughter get married. So wonderful in this rather grim time to have lots to cheer about...train home...sleep calling 👍
I shall be discussing this 👇and more with Jamie Jenkins from 10.00 am this morning on
@talkRADIO
- at a time when we need total confidence in data, our media, leaders & health professionals should at least try to be meticulous!
🚨🚨 Boris Johnson - ‘The overwhelming majority of people currently ending up in intensive care in our hospitals are people who are not boosted’
FACT CHECK
➡️ Difficult to check as not published.
Comments moved from unvaccinated to not boosted so includes double vaccinated.
Once again what a huge amount of the voting public actually want, is completely divorced from what so many MPs think they want. Fortunately
@BorisJohnson
is not one of those and might explain his huge poll lead.
YouGov for the Sunday Times
(fieldwork Thurs/Fri)
Con 35% (-)
Lab 21% (-4)
LDem 19% (+3)
Brexit 12% (+1)
A week of turmoil and Johnson seems to be defying gravity
So France
@EmmanuelMacron
in particular want the benefits of U.K. membership in the EU without the U.K. being in the EU ....nothing ironic there then
So
@SkyNews
first cover the huge demos in Hong Kong where democracy is genuinely under threat & then cut to Russia where there is a pro democracy protest face off with the army - in Westminster protestors look absurd by comparison with their claims of threats to U.K. democracy
Remember when a day didn’t go by when critics of the government published daily country comparison charts on Twitter? There seem to have been less of them this summer, I wonder why?
“A lawyer not a leader” says
@BorisJohnson
- cracking line -is someone finally doing their prep for PMQs ? And the audience he is targeting, his own MPs lapped it up
Looking at the brilliance of the Army logistical support efforts in Dover to get truckers tested makes employing them to do the same at secondary schools seems like a no brainer. Supporting civil programs like this is something they excel at.
If MPs are tempted to support a Customs Union in a future vote, they might want to read this article beforehand from
@GregHands
. Why a customs union is the wrong choice for MPs | News | The Times
With the inevitable departure of
@BorisJohnson
from No10 that will mean that Conservative MPs have changed PM 4 times and Labour once since 1990 without an electoral mandate. Is it time to consider a constitutional change so the public, not the politicians have the final say?
“Mr Barnier has refused to discuss the fishing proposals because of his “parallelism” policy, which means he will not hold talks on any issue before Britain first agrees to significant concessions”.This worked with May but won’t with
@BorisJohnson
With a further reported attack on French Embassy in Saudi Arabia it’s clear there’s a sustained attack on the French people-I hope we continue to be very vocal in our support for our neighbours who share our values of free speech, liberty & tolerance in the face of these attacks
I am shocked by the horrifying attack in Nice today. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. The UK stands in complete solidarity with our French friends against terrorism and all those who try to intimidate us through such despicable action.
It is an honour and a privilege to be sworn in as Lord Chancellor today.
I will uphold the rule of law & defend the independence of the judiciary.
I aim to increase court capacity, create a prison system that rehabilitates, cut re-offending & boost support for victims.
Seriously? Keep us in lockdown because the hospitals need protection to catch up with their own backlog? Covid-19: Concern over June unlocking amid hospital pressure
National Insurance Contributions fund state pensions and the NHS.
So will the Prime Minister’s £46 billion of unfunded tax cuts come from cutting state pensions or cuts to our NHS?
#PMQs
Impact of cancelled flights due to
#coronavirusuk
very evident at Stansted airport this morning as many businesses restrict travel for employees and others chose to stay at home. EasyJet staff tell me significant flight cancellations explain lack of queues:”This is not normal”
After the shameful behaviour of Germany, France and EU Commission dissuading their citizens from having the AZ vaccine here is the sound of rowing back “Ursula von der Leyen “would take the AZ vaccine without a second thought” she told Augsburger Allgemeine
To all those that think
@IainDale
gives Brexiteers and
@Nigel_Farage
in particular an easy ride should be in no doubt after this hour long grilling - above all else it shows what a broadcasting professional Iain Dale is.
As the early swings point to terrific swing for Conservatives it’s a reminder that people vote for hope, not the negativity offered from the Labour campaign where it looks like it’s Curtains for Kier

Protestors from Insulate Britain are running onto the M25 into moving traffics at junction 10 putting their lives, drivers and police lives at risk - reckless life threatening behaviour and trust police will through the book at them
Just received the wedding photos from my daughters big day - a brilliant take from the photographer here, my beautiful happy daughter and Dad, just torn between joy and shedding a melancholy tear.
Regardless of what side of the argument you are on over the IM Bill, where was this sort of stubbornness and determination when it came to standing up to the EU demands with the Withdrawal Agreement ?
Theresa May still intends to vote against the Internal Market Bill when it returns to the Commons tonight, I'm told - the first ex-Prime Minister in living memory to break a 3 line Government whip. More on
@TimesRadio
now.
Last Saturday show done with
@TalkTV
. What a blast it’s been & with such a great bunch of pro’s, & of course you the viewer & listener.
I was once told there’s nothing more useless than a one term MP-
@TalkTV
and talkRADIO helped disprove that theory…I hope 🙄
Huge thanks!
