3/ Staff and students have been hospitalised this year, with some ending up in ICU however this isn't common knowledge amongst staff and students But the solution is apparently to encourage people to keep coming in whilst infectious, how does that improve absence?

Student goes to Reading Festival, LFTs are negative, Friday student has temperature and a cough, parent sends them in because of LFTs, ends up in a classroom with me without windows or ventilation, Monday student now off with covid. DfE says no-one in the room is a close contact

The full picture on kids missing school in England is out and it’s a pretty shocking picture 22% missing at least 10% of school time. - but in secondaries that rose to 28% - almost a third of children missing so much is a terrible legacy of the pandemic

So, studies have now shown that 2nd infections in children are 1) associated with the same risk of long COVID as 1st infections 2) the risk is not uncommon (5-16%); and 3) associated with similar risk of hospitalisation. This is not unexpected 🧵
