Director of
@YachadUK
- working to mobilise British Jews in support of a political resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. Tweets personal & work.
Context: this was organised by
@TagMeir
an organisation set up to encounter extremist violence towards Palestinians from far right Israelis who act with impunity. It’s not a random act of ‘cordiality’. It’s a deeply political act in the face of gvt sanctioned far right violence.
Jews offer Muslim worshippers dates outside the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. A simple, ancient scene of cordiality that the crowds who will take to the streets tomorrow in the name of Hamas will never understand
Have you been to the West Bank where Palestinians are subject to a different legal system? Where they do not receive building permits for homes while settlers do. Where settlers commit violence against Palestinians with impunity. Oh no I forgot you don’t need to, you got on a bus
On a bus in Israel. Muslim woman in hijab chatting on her phone. No one cares. Israel is not a racist country. It is not an “apartheid” state. There is no ethnic conflict here. From Israel’s perspective the conflict is a political one over land. It’s the other side that is racist
The Israeli ambassador does not represent the Jewish community of the UK. She is the ambassador of another country that the vast majority of British Jews are not citizens of.
I have been horrified to see the rise in antisemitism in our education system since 07/10.
@Halfon4HarlowMP
and I are clear: antisemitism must not be tolerated.
A pleasure to meet
@TzipiHotovely
to discuss our continued efforts to support the Jewish community across education.
This is where zero-sum opinions lead you. To a place where you justify the kidnapping, rape & murder of civilians. It is perfectly possible to stand against Hamas & the evil it perpetrated & in support of the rights of the Palestinian people against policies of the Israeli gvt.
Last night the Oakland City Council voted on a resolution to call for a ceasefire.
A city council member tried to insert language condemning Hamas.
This was the reaction…
Imagine being neither Jewish or Muslim and thinking it’s a good idea, when tensions are high, and Jews and Muslims are scared, to try and play these two communities off against each other. Thankfully most Jews and Muslims
are allies in pushing back at this kind of behaviour.
Imagine you're a British Jew. You've just witnessed the worst atrocities against Jews since World War Two. And then a wave of anti-Semitic & pro-Hamas chants on Britain's streets. And now your national leaders fall over themselves to warn the country about "Islamophobia".
Shocking to see this in mainstream Israeli press. It’s like saying there are Israelis sitting in cafes so no one is traumatised in Israel.
What do you want
@ynetnews
? For every child to stop smiling & be starving to believe there is a problem? That’s called collective punishment
Poor Gaza civilians having fun at the beach, not too far away from where Israeli women, children and elders are being held hostage.
Horrific genocide, famine and other old wives' tales.

I’ve just returned from Israel. There are 3 options 1) stay silent in face of a gvt of extremists 2) decide there’s nothing worth fighting for - both of which entrench the status quo - or 3) get behind the people like
@AlonLeeGreen
&
@omdimbeyachad
. I choose option 3.
It is not only a battle over the aid to the starving people in Gaza, it's also a battle over the soul of our society. Today we confronted settlers that attacked the aid trucks AND WE WON: all the trucks passed successfully to Gaza.
We need your support:
Except there’s nothing in Emma Watson’s post that suggests she’s expressing solidarity with rockets, unless you assume all Palestinians are responsible for them.
The discussion on the Israel Palestine conflict is infantile enough without wilfully misrepresenting people’s words. It’s like me saying ‘I don’t work in a school’ and someone saying I said ‘I don’t work’. People who can’t engage in good faith shouldn’t bother engaging at all.
I simply cannot fathom the moral rot in someone's soul that leads them to win an award for a movie about the Holocaust and with the platform given to them, to accept that award by saying, "We stand here as men who refute their Jewishness."
Huge opposition building against moving the UK embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. I'm compiling a thread here. I hope

When did it become the mission of the

The Chief Executive of

There is an absolutely legitimate basic right for people get out onto the streets in solidarity with Palestinian people. This is not that. It is a call for violence that will wholly delegitimise the legitimate right to protest. Not to mention making Jews feel extremely unsafe.

Really
@BoardofDeputies

Rachel Goldberg: "I have cried a million tears in the last 67 days. We all have. And I know that way over there, there's another woman who looks just like me because we are all so very similar and she has also been crying. All those tears, they all taste the same."

Or how about: Giving the Palestinian people a shred of possibility that politics and diplomacy can advance their national cause will help diminish the space for extremism to fill the void. Unless your preference is for Israelis and Palestinians to live in a permanent state of war
Palestinians must not be allowed to look back at the October 7 Massacre and think, "Gee, burning this whole family alive really advanced our national cause."
Because then they will do it again.
And that is what you are encouraging them to do.
I feel so ashamed watching this. Where is the condemnation

When the son of the Israeli PM wishes the biggest far right sympathizers in Europe good luck in the elections, you know something is truly broken between Israel and the Diaspora.
To all the liberals who went bananas over this twit: you are crazy! These leaders are true friends of Israel and the Jewish people. Unlike Jeremy Cornyn, Rashida talib, Linda sarsour etc that you adore who are actually antisemites and racist!
The default of many diaspora Jewish orgs is to not publicy break rank with Israel. Meanwhile, the Israeli PM, who claims to be the leader of the Jewish people (which he is not), happily sits in a room smiling with a promoter and defender of antisemitism. It's time for a rethink.

What an absolutely horrendous 24 hours. 24 dead Gazans, 200 rockets fired at Israel, thousands of far right nationalists dancing in front of a fire on Haram al Sharif/ Temple Mount. No one can sleep easy in their beds and there are no winners here.
Hard to understand the scale of what’s happening in Israel. But two things are clear: those celebrating or failing to condemn a situation where the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of innocent civilians are under direct threat are not allies in the pursuit of peace & justice
Channel 12 reporter: “Hamas now controls several population centers in southern Israel. I can’t believe I’m saying this. The residents are begging for help.”

Incredible that Britain is considering sending troops to Gaza for aid. The quickest way to deliver peace for Palestinians and Israelis is to allow Israel to get on with the job of eliminating Hamas.
This is amazing - asking the police to arrest Jews and Israelis protesting a far right gvt. And this man calls himself a friend of Israel. And for the record, yes the Israeli gvt has terrorists in it. Guess if it’s terrorism against Palestinians it doesn’t count?

Such an embarrassment. Not only is it entirely untrue - the communities here pre-existed the Firing Zone - but what kind of take is it to support the demolishing of a school in illegally occupied territory? Thankfully it’s been condemned by the international community inc UK gvt
Illegally putting up a building in a firing zone and calling it a school is naughty.
Placing children inside it is awful.
Doing so *knowing* the kids will face a trauma - just so you can get propaganda images is disgraceful.

This is a very welcome move - we need more of this from the international community. It’s time to make it clear anything short of action towards two states will not do
Extremist settlers, by targeting and killing Palestinian civilians, are undermining security and stability for both Israelis and Palestinians.
Israel must take stronger action to stop settler violence and hold the perpetrators accountable.

My loss is no luxury.
We need a resolution, to prevent others suffering in the way we have - Palestinians and Israelis deserve peace, equality and dignity.
@PCFFIP
This is the grim face of occupation. Nearly 60 years of undemocratically ruling over the Palestinian people. It’s time people woke up to the grim reality of what it means.
This is a deplorable disgrace. (if it it is what it seems to be,) this israeli govt has to get control over these settlers. not only it is essential in a democracy to protect innocent Palestinians but if they dont it will ultimately lead to an explosion in the W Bank. those
So relieved the cease-fire has held. Today I spent an hr speaking with an Israeli & Palestinian, one grieving for his parents murdered on Oct 7th & the other whose cousin was shot in the West Bank this week. Both desperate find a path through together. Another future is possible.
1/ I wonder if the people who spent yesterday tweeting that a Palestinian baby killed in air strikes was actually a doll & have since deleted their tweet, will consider that their rush to assume it was a lie makes them part of the problem. Probably not.
The
@BoardofDeputies
can continue to call Israel the only democracy in the Middle East. But there is nothing democratic about Israel unilterally annexing West Bank territory whilst Palestinians have no right to vote for the government that is making this decision.
'British Jews' are 'combatting' the Labour Party. Imagine saying this about another religious minority if they raised the issue of discrimination towards them in a political party. That so many people 'liked' this tweet makes you realise how many people don't like Jews. Grim.
Education Secretary

is wrong. From the River to the Sea is not a police matter and attempting to criminalise it is dangerous for everyone, and here is why
1/3 Such is the experience of Jews in the 20th century that it’s a quirk of history that my family ended up the UK and families murdered on Oct 7th lived where they did in Israel. Liel looks so much like my children and I can’t stop thinking it could have been them.
12 year old Liel, her twin brother and their grandfather were murdered by Hamas.
