The route to independence is as follows :
1) SNP hold talks with the leaders of all pro-independence parties and movements to reform Yes Scotland
2) SNP call holyrood election before GE
3) voting strategy is Snp 1 Yes Scotland 2
4) super majority declares independence
I wanted to congratulate the Sea Angling Club Stornoway on the occasion of their 60th anniversary and thank all those involved over the years for the wonderful part they have played in our local community catering for all ages - good luck for the next sixty years
A new era for the SNP and, as a Free Church member and SNP Group leader, I would like to align myself with Kevin Stewart MSP when he says "We must aim for a world where no-one is afraid to thell the world who they are."
@MhairiHunter
Mhairi, I’m going to look Humza in the eye and ask him if he is not only going to tolerate the Free Church of Scotland but celebrate it - isn’t that fair?
@JohnPro63842862
@AngusMacNeilSNP
No , the support for independence is consistent - a massive YES campaign will get us over the line - when labour win, they will be less detestable to the media - I’ve had enough of food banks and huge energy costs and a trickle down economic policy passed from Tory to labour
Good to see the Comhairle seriously exploring the establishment of a publicly owned energy supply company (Esco) nearly ten years after the Comhairle SNP group had proposed this only to be voted down by independent councillors - how many people could have avoided fuel poverty?
@marcuscarslaw1
we went from mid twenties to 45 against the unionist media - it can happen again - we are at a crossroads - either SNP conference gives us a campaign or not - if not, I think its curtains
@HI_Voices
Enjoying your comments by the way - there aren’t many outlets for local political debate ! Hebrides put more weighting on the person rather than the party, that’s true !
@RumpleFinkin
@JacquelineHooft
Disagree - as the mandate prior to election will be made clear - the people are sovereign and WM will only be part of the negotiation of assets
@CalumMacleod07
@WHFP1
@scotgov
Thank you for this and the sentiment align with the Comhairle SNP group where communities best placed to make these decisions where they live and work
@marcuscarslaw1
Snap Holyrood election before the labour party take WM - starting at 47% we will win - have faith in the argument for self-determination
@Torcuil
Quite interesting that the Comhairle SNP group see inter-island tunnels as the way forward and labour want more ferries, - we would welcome labour to join us in our campaign for inter-island tunnels
@marcuscarslaw1
I don't think you are reading the room - Independence is the glue that keeps the broad church together - abandon that and its obvious that church is no longer broad and will lose support - the SNP have a chance at conference to revitalise the movement by snap holyrood election
@ste4kngr4vy
Possibly because the strategy is unclear - I think a Scottish election fought on independence would unite the movement as per stage 1) in my proposal
Comhairle SNP group welcome the stopping of HPMAs but it is a worry that a labour government would impose double what was proposed by the SNP Government - I am sure once the Stornoway Gazette, WHFP, Radio nan Gaidheal and the Comhairle deputy leader find out they will be raging
Quite interesting that the Comhairle SNP group see inter-island tunnels as the way forward and labour want more ferries, - we would welcome labour to join us in our campaign for inter-island tunnels
@marcuscarslaw1
I don't think many will fight to keep a big centrist coalition but they WILL fight for independence and my own desire , for a Scottish Socialist republic! Isn't that worth fighting for!
@bf7216
@AngusMacNeilSNP
It’s nothing to do with Westminster - it will be solely in the hands of Scotland - many thanks for giving me the opportunity to highlight that
@marcuscarslaw1
the definition of a colony according to Cambridge University dictionary is "a country or area controlled politically by a more powerful country that is often far away"
@marcuscarslaw1
@Callum_TH
I would be electoral suicide for a WM party to allow a referendum when support for independence is nearly 50% and there's plenty oil in the North Sea, plenty water and huge swathes of renewable energy in Scotland
On October 3rd in 1900, Keir Hardie, the great labour leader was elected MP for Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, the description of the Rutherglen by-election as "seismic" could be used to describe the seismic shift in values from Keir Hardie to the present day labour party
I am sure the whole of Scotland is celebrating with Manor Park tonight and wishing Kara Hanlon all the best for the final in the swimming 50m breastroke!! We are proud of you!!
@andywightman
You will be aware Andy that many councils built up reserves over the last decade when the interest rate was at its lowest instead of investing in infrastructure and now find themselves unable to fund projects that are needed in communities
On Monday, I had the privilege of being invited for coffee and cakes by a new group that has been set up called Seann Eolaich - the group is for those unpaid carers who need support when their loved one goes into care or passes away. A truly wonderful group!
@StewartMcDonald
@williemillersm1
No Stewart, we don't go for another referendum as the unionist parties will not allow one - we need to have a snap Holyrood election now and put it to our people as more and more independence supporters are switching off
At full council, it was agreed to have a further seminar on Crofting and Care Charges - good to see that it is still on the agenda - and here's hoping we can all agree to stop this practice - taking croft tenancies away from families to pay for residential care.
@DonaldMurray56
@theSNP
@cne_siar
Many thanks for all your messages Donald - the branch is meeting very soon to discuss - hope you are well and that your book tour is doing well
@BjCruickshank
what an anti-democrat who does not believe the people to be sovereign -in a democratic country it would be up to the people to decide not just the rich or aristocratic
@sweenyness
The ferry fares for Under 22s are going to be included in the fares review at the end of this year - I will expect ferry travel for under 22 to be treated exactly the same as rail travel for the mainland !!
@J4m35c4mpb3ll
@HunterNorrie
I don’t think that could hold against a cast iron mandate backed a large majority of elected representatives although I admire Roddy Dunlop very much !
Great visit to Macaulay Farm this week - what an amazing place and thanks to Jo Ann and everyone for making me so welcome !
Keep up the fantastic work!
The terrible situation we are in has brought the best out of our community in working together to help each other - the Community Fridge will be housed in the Cearns - testimony to all the hard work and consideration for others by those involved
So delighted to have doorknocked the whole ward and delivered my leaflet - it has been a great experience and reaffirmed my belief that Stornoway North is really a great place and I have been privileged to represent it for the last ten years - thanks for the opportunity !
@marcuscarslaw1
Marcus, if you are of the same mind as me, then why not a snap Holyrood and take the initiative - surely you see the irony of waiting on others to decide when we can vote on independence - we are running out of runway and Rutherglen is a hard but important lesson
Fantastic weather for campaigning in Bennadrove and the old Castle Ward with Memorial Avenue / Maclean Terrace and Macdonald Road - great to see so many people and hand out the leaflet....
@AngusMacNeilSNP
My reading of it is this - if the SNP win a majority of seats they start negotiations for independence as in ask for a referendum, when refused obviously, then a Holyrood election will be used as a referendum whether in 2026 or earlier
@BlackIslePMD
@Craig_Berry_
@makarneil
Haven't read the article yet but what I would be prescribing is publicly-owned energy supply companies in each local authority harnessing the locally produced energy and controlling the price at cost
Absolutely delighted to have been re-elected as group leader for the SNP Council group at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - it's a privilege to lead such a talented team of councillors.
I cannot go to the SNP Conference but hope they will consider a snap Holyrood election before WM election - the self-determination of any nation should lie with the people themselves and not WM - this will unite the YES movement and start the campaign for self-determination
"Nearly four million people experienced destitution in 2022 – an extraordinary 148% increase over just five years. This included one million children, nearly three times as many as in 2017. In short, poverty in the UK is deepening. " Political choices by Westminster
@Torcuil
@cne_siar
It is shocking that those who represent the Comhairle at COSLA agree this allocation - it is up to COSLA to divvy up the share of the government's funding and our reps accept this - It's time they stood up to this funding allocation
I wish that people representing the SNP on the media would seriously challenge the unionist narrative that independence is exclusive from the cost of living crisis - independence is the key to solving it and taking control of all our resources, planned economy is the only way
I would like to thank all those who voted for me in the Stornoway North ward - it was an absolute joy campaigning and meeting so many people - I am delighted to have been elected and thank you so much for putting your faith in me!
