During a dry spell the water level in Loch Shin drops to expose the ghostly remains of the forest that covered the area before the hydro scheme was built. At times the shoreline looks like part of an alien invasion.

Shellfish farming is very sustainable. Nothing is added they filter their food from the sea. The water is cleaned too and it’s low on CO2. The beds provide shelter and shade for other creatures. We don’t shout about it enough and are often overlooked because it’s also a business.

Our home was built by my husband's great-grandfather who was a stone mason. There was no road to lochside until 1950s, so materials were brought in by boat and carried up the hill from the boat house (also stone). It was finished in 1910 after 20 yrs of work.

Deer are a ‘problem’ but also an opportunity. Let’s get more venison on plates. It’s great stuff.

Scotland's deer population has nearly doubled in my lifetime, with devastating effects for our natural environment. #GreensInGovernment will ensure that big estate owners take responsibility for managing the deer population on their land

Another Ness historic site for you. I spent my afternoon at Filiscleitir, where John Nicholson (An Fiosaiche, The Seer, who introduced evangelicalism to Ness) built a spectacular clifftop chapel among the shielings. 3rd pic is a shieling ruin, 4th a phone pic for context.

As my final day of tweeting a random assortment of Highland related stuff dawns, have a midsummer sunset stile from Assynt. I hope you've enjoyed this week, or at least found it tolerable. There'll be a few more stiles, tin sheds, clouds, the odd beach.

I'm going to be sharing a few maps each day, so let's kick off with a 3D map of the Western Isles. This is made with free data from @OrdnanceSurvey & a free program called Aerialod.
