Not one penny of public money should be used to fund the Duke of York's £12 million settlement. Not one single solitary penny. Ain't nobody pays their taxes for that.
My twin sister Fiona died last night. Still feels unreal. V grateful to all at the Beatson Centre, particularly staff on ward 2B who let me move in to be with her on her final journey & gave her a peaceful, dignified & painless passing. Thank you.

So last night Boris Johnson tweeted a video of him unwrapping a fish supper saying build back batter. And this morning he has tweeted a video of himself spreading some toast saying build back butter. And everyone is just OK with this.
Jeremy Clarkson in the Sun .... unquestionably this should not have been published and the fact that it was highlights how pathetically weak regulation of the press in the UK is.
Scotland may not have fully engaged with the Platinum Jubilee but we're fully on board with Vote of No Confidence Day. I wouldn't rule out street parties if it goes the right way.
I see the Daily Mail is doing its the existence of mosques = no-go areas for white people schtick again. You've got to laugh. Glasgow's Central Mosque is currently hosting a major Covid vaccination centre. Very much a go-to area for white people!
Apart from anything else Sarah Smith is just wrong in saying Scotland is following a different path to the rest of the UK. We are following a different path from England - as is the rest of the UK.
Re Jimmy Carr story, it's really important to understand hatred of gypsies is not a thing of the past. It did not end with the Nazi attempt to exterminate them. A memorial to Roma & Sinti victims of the Holocaust in Glasgow has been desecrated twice. But it's much more than that.
Well I didn't expect today to go like this. A combination of Green & Alba votes leaves me no longer a councillor. Pretty ironic really. Still, more time to campaign for independence. Onwards & upwards.
Today the parliament of Finland passed a law introducing a self-declaration system of legal gender identity. Same as Scotland (& Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Ireland & multiple others). But, unlike Scotland, no other government can intervene to stop them doing it.
I'm not totally against a memorial to Thatcher, I'm just not sure what form it should take, an abandoned coalmine, a giant UB40, a mothballed steepyard or simply an empty bottle of milk.
I loathe George Galloway with every fibre of my being but it is completely inappropriate for the Prime Minister to call a press conference to condemn the outcome of an election.
There are a number of things I could tweet about some cttee members today but I'm not going to! I will just say that was an opportunity to see Nicola Sturgeon unfiltered and to me it was very evident why she is a great MSP and the best FM this country could have.
Just a reminder the purpose of asking a politician what a woman is - a question no adult really needs to ask- is to try to force them to exclude the very small number of women who are trans, which most estimates put at 0.5% of the total population.
No report has yet been published on the FM & ministerial code. But a court of law has found that the PM misled parliament. The Tories are calling for the FM to resign before due process is complete. They will pretend this court case hasn't even happened.
Ooft Keir Starmer playing the Queen card & they all fall silent. Speaker says we don't get into discussions of the Royal Family. It's a medieval chamber isn't it?
Btw Spain just passed a self declaration system of legal gender recognition joining Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Malta & others.
If you're watching the right wing press in full baying hounds mode going after a stigmatised minority & thinking "ah, but this time it's different". No, it's not. It's never different. It's exactly what it looks like.
Interesting detail in this. Since the start of the voluntary pay freeze on 1 April 2009, Scottish Ministers have made over £1.3 million (to 31 March 2022) available for public spending from their own pay packets. Something for UK Gov to consider.
I'm going to be quite brutal here but any political analyst or commentator who tries to tell you that the SNP engineered a confrontation with UK Gov over GRA reform is an idiot. They don't understand the situation at all. It is UK Gov that has engineered this conflict.
Nicola may not have considered herself the right First Minister for the job but I did. I remember thinking that exact thing. I thought her years of experience, her ability to focus, & the depth of her commitment to the job made her exactly the right person. I still think that.
Former FM Nicola Sturgeon becomes tearful when asked at the UK Covid Inquiry if she considered herself to be “the right First Minister for the job?” during the pandemic.
The complaints from Tories about Nicola Sturgeon meeting lots of people at Cop26 show how dysfunctional Scottish politics is. Cop26 is an international networking event. Making connections and finding opportunities to collaborate in the fight against climate change is good.
I think there will have to be consequences for what we have seen today. Once you could maybe overlook. But to do it twice is a slap in the face to everyone who has been putting the wellbeing of the wider community above their own. And that's the vast majority of Glaswegians.
SNP, Labour, Green politicians in Glasgow all saying the same thing. Waiting to hear from the Tories. Call it out. Call it out & stand with Glasgow rejecting racism.
Sad to say my dad passed away suddenly yesterday. I was with him when he passed and it was very peaceful. Here he is back in the day with my mum at Bannockburn in the early/mid 80s, and another pic from my brother's wedding. Ian James Hunter 30/6/1934 - 12/6/2021.
Noticeable that there was zero support for the heckler in a room full of women who all work for or play some role in organisations tackling violence against women & girls. You can draw your own conclusions from that.
Opposition politicians attacking FM for not attending every UK Cobra meeting. Detail that counts is, as always, at the bottom of the story. "The First Minister has been chairing meetings of the Scottish Government Resilience Committee, our equivalent of Cobra, since January 29".
This Graham Norton thing is really the culture war eating itself. His whole point was don't ask me, I'm just a bloke off the telly. Ask people who actually know what they're talking about. It's astounding that people can still find reasons be annoyed at basic common sense.
There are some polling places in Glasgow with quite significant queues due to social distancing. You can vote up to 10pm. If you are in a queue at 10pm you can still vote. Election staff will identify the end of any queue at 10pm (if there is one) & everyone will be able to vote.
The kids in George Square today were all extremely well behaved. I have no doubt the same is true elsewhere. These are conscientious young people who want to save the world. Anyone having a go at them is an idiot really.
Gordon Brown to lead a commission to settle the issue of the Union, Keir Starmer announces.
*Smart politics. Should put to bed an attack line from the Conservatives at the election that there'll be a second indy referendum if Keir Starmer needs a coalition with the SNP.
Conservatives getting ready to blame Boris Johnson for poor election results should actually acknowledge that Conservatives are to blame for Boris Johnson. You picked him. You stood by him. You're to blame.
Just a reminder the state cannot prevent women having abortions. The state can only prevent women having safe abortions. If you want to make abortion less safe, you are a danger to women.
I refuse to believe that anyone really does not understand why Nicola Sturgeon posting the most famous Nicola Sturgeon gif is funny. They know fine well that it's a joke and they are just at it.
I haven't actually worked this out but I have a strong feeling that almost every catastrophe predicted by unionists if Scotland voted Yes has now happened ... & then some.
Fed up of current events being presented as a "feud" between Alex Salmond & Nicola Sturgeon. It's supposed to be an enquiry into why the Scottish Government's sexual harassment complaints process collapsed. It"s about why women who complained were let down.
People need to stop thinking of benefits in terms of money but in terms of ability for everyone to be housed, to be warm, to have enough food to eat, enough clothes to wear and to have the means to participate in society. A country that cannot provide that is a failed state.
Still seeing people argue that if someone accused of sexual crimes is acquitted it means the accuser was lying. It absolutely does not mean that. Let me explain.
You know if someone had told me ten years ago that the leaders of the anti-Tory resistance down south would be Carol Vorderman & Gary Linekar I would probably have said but what happened to the Labour Party? And that's a good question.
Seeing a lot of rubbish on twitter comparing the experience of Scots with Native Americans. Anyone who believes this I recommend you read Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee or another history of the time. Scots - & Irish - were not simply complicit in the annihilation, they led it.
Absolutely infuriating the number of right wing commentators now saying oh, but but haven't we all broken the lockdown rules? No, we bloody well haven't.
I think the reason things have become so crazy is because the SNP's opponents don't believe the SNP can be beaten democratically. So they're prepared to burn everything down to burn the SNP down.
A reminder not one single Scottish Conservative has opposed the UK Gov on their policy of deporting asylum seekers to Rwanda. They support this policy. Remember that on May 5 & vote for every party before them.
Ironically I think in the FM's statement she showed all the qualities that made her such a great leader, integrity, objectivity, honesty, vision and intelligence - emotional intelligence as well as intellectual. Many could learn from that.
Something ironic about the
#IStandWithGrahamNorton
hashtag as this was precisely what he was trying to avoid. I do stand with him cos he's a nice wee guy who explicitly tried not to become part of the culture war by very reasonably suggesting consulting experts instead of celebs.
The twitter trolling and abuse many are receiving from those with the
#FBPE
is just plain tedious, mostly offensive and foul mouthed. I’m switching off notifications so will no longer see, or be able to reply to anyone - sorry.
One thing I would like to say as we gear up for indyref2. There is absolutely no point engaging with dyed in the wool unionists who will never vote for independence. You can often spot these folk by their flag festooned accounts & tendency to talk about Mrs Murrell. Avoid.
I see one of Scotpol twitter's favourites claiming she could not find Fort William because of the Gaelic on road signs. How can you not find Fort William? Look for the bloody great mountain and it's just up the road.
It's funny how Labour will throw all the jobs dependent on Prestwick under a bus because American planes refuel there but when it comes to actual WMDs up the road it's all about saving the jobs. Weird logic.
Latest poll shows SNP on course for a victory in May and independence still in the lead. But some slippage. Shows that impact of social media conspiracy theories is limited - but it is there. Time to stop amplifying the loopy stuff & keep our eyes on the prize.

Fed up seeing tweets about whether Nicola should "debate" Steve Bannon. They were never going to debate, they were speaking on separate days. Real issue is what on earth the BBC are playing at. First Tommy Robinson, now this. It's as if they think fascism is just another opinion.
This slapping a Union Jack on everything is bizarre. It's almost like magical thinking. If there are more Union Jacks everywhere Scots will love Brexit and the Union. Lol. No we won't.
Don't believe the lies about refugees. 1) There's no obligation to stop at the 1st safe country. 2) France takes in many more refugees than UK. Germany takes in 10 times as many. 3) Ppl usually come to the UK because they have a connection- eg they have family here or spk English
This is 100 per cent about trying to disrupt the SNP and prevent a majority in the next election, thus halting the momentum to indyref2. I know most of you know that but it never hurts to spell things out.
So GERS tells us the UK Exchequer generated over £9billion in North Sea revenues last year. If we were independent that money would have helped to fund our just transition to a decarbonised economy. Instead it was simply absorbed into the UK Treasury.

Immediate impact of LEZ.
"Data from the first 24 hours shows that levels of the particulate nitrogen dioxide on Hope Street have been cut by over a third"
Not going to comment on current events - there would be very little point since I am not remotely neutral or objective - except to say some people really don't like women being in power and we see you.
Saw a story where I am described as Nicola Sturgeon's former campaign manager. No former about it, mate. I am still the Organiser of Glasgow Southside - the best constituency in the land - and currently writing our Euro>Indyref campaign plan!
I made the mistake of reading the replies to Humza Yousaf's tweet about the Scottish Government's budget situation. So just to reiterate the budget is fixed. By law Scotgov cannot raise taxes in year, nor can it borrow to fund day to day revenue spending.
It's worth reflecting that gender recognition reform passed with support from 69% of MSPs - & MSPs from all parties. We'll hear a lot about how controversial and divisive the legislation is. But actually the opposite is true. There's an unusually high degree of consensus on this.
If someone won't be an MP for £80k then don't stand in the first place. The idea we need to pay them more is absolute nonsense and an insult to the vast majority who can only dream of that kind of salary.
The whole idea of charging for lateral flow tests is once again the Tories not understanding how the other half live. People are facing rising food costs, rising fuel costs, rising everything basically.
Labour down south saying UK Gov should consider the possibility of a Scottish-style U-turn while Labour here are trying to sack the man who made it. Funny old world.
The Herald are carrying a story suggestng that the SDL wants to march in Govanhill. I will do everything possible to prevent this & I am confident all local elected members & local organisations will do the same. Keep your race hate off our streets.
That column by Gordon Brown is extraordinary. In it he acknowledges that all the drivers of child poverty are reserved but that we should tax people here more to mitigate the outcomes of a system we voluntarily remain part of. Of all unionist arguments this is the craziest.
Can I just say that I absolutely accept that people can articulate a personal or faith based view that abortion is wrong. What I do not accept, at all, is any attempt to restrict or remove access to safe abortion for others or to harass people using or providing services.
I know we aren't meant to criticise a free press but can we acknowledge the right wing press aren't really free, are rotten to the core, and are every bit as much to blame for the woeful state of the UK as the Tories are.
I moved from London to Glasgow when I was 13 or 14 (can't actually remember). With a broad London accent there were some interesting moments. But at no point did I hear people singing songs about being up to their knees in English blood or instructing me to go home.
Read a bizarre rant from Tory MSP Sharon Dowey attacking Glasgow City Council for being insufficiently royalist. Sharon is an MSP for the South of Scotland, she doesn't have a single constituent in Glasgow, so why is she even commenting? What business is it of hers?
