I hear from people up and down the country that the cost of living is their main concern. I'm pleased that today's Budget acts to tackle that with money off the costs of people's energy bills. We made the commitment at the election and we're acting on it.

1/ The affordability crisis is the biggest issue facing this country. That is why I am proud that this Budget acts to take £150 of costs off people’s energy bills.

A fantastic win for Highland Search & Rescue teams in the budget today as the Chancellor announces that SAR organisations will be exempt from paying VED. This means they can use more of their fundraising to go towards training and kit. Congratulations @Torcuil & @JoshMacAlister

Reminder: the SNP always had the power to eliminate the 2-child cap in Scotland, and did nothing for 8 years. Labour has abolished it within 18 months of coming into government.

Nicola Sturgeon says she won’t get rid of the 2-child cap in Scotland because she doesn’t have the money. And she doesn’t want to raise taxes to pay for it. (FMQs, 13th December 2018)

The Scottish government is £10bn better off since the UK Labour government came to power just last year yet services continue to decline. Where’s all the extra money gone?

Rachel Reeves has today done more to transform the lives of 450,000 of Britain’s poorest children than any of the seven previous Conservative chancellors, who, in 14 long years, did nothing but harm to the lives of vulnerable children. https://t.co/xOTRFpKUhU

Bravura performance by Reeves, looking every inch the Labour chancellor. Unmistakably Labour in who she targets and who she protects. A budget that will bring down the cost of living and reduce inflation. And a milestone decision on the two-child cap that will end perhaps the

The end of the two child benefit cap, reducing child poverty, real Labour values. Hats off, incidentally, to @alisonthewliss , former SNP MP who first spotted the hateful rape clause in George Osborne budget.

I to the hills…thanks @RachelReevesMP for vehicle excise duty exemption for Search&Rescue vehicles. Along with @JoshMacAlister I set up an all-party group last year for SAR volunteers who put their lives on the line for others. The chancellor listened, she’s got their back.

“The accounts amplify each other’s posts within seconds, recycle the same slogans and work in near synchrony. This creates the impression of a vibrant and diverse group of Scottish independence supporters when the activity is in fact driven by a foreign influence operation.”
