The EPA has stated since April 2021 that surgical masks are only 38.5% effective, and this has been on their website ever since. Stating that they are in anyway equivalent to respirators is misinformation. 1/
I don’t think mask mandates work, nor does long term mask wearing for individuals prevent them getting Covid. Most transmission is at home.
But I do think you get a short term decrease in risk and so some increased in protection by wearing a mask and using some eye protection.
